Humbled...

Today has been a very humbling day - one when we have been counting our blessings ...

As my sister approaches her 60th birthday she has asked that people mark the occasion not with a gift but with a donation on her JustGiving page which she has set up in memory of her husband Richard who so very sadly died on Boxing Day - the funds will go to the Brain Tumour Charity - the donations cannot bring him back but they may help someone else.  https://www.justgiving.com/Kaye-Thomas/

Last year John's schoolmates 'The Class of 84' had a special reunion - unfortunately John could not attend because it took place when his Mum and Stepdad were on holiday with us.  People moan about Facebook but the reunion group that was set up enabled John to get back in touch with a whole host of people, many of whom were last together when they were 16 years old.

A few days ago one of his classmates died under very sad circumstances and without the funds for a funeral.  A flurry of exchanges took place on Facebook with the members of the reunion group putting their hands in their pockets over the course of a couple of days and raised more than enough funds to give this guy a decent send-off.  Their efforts did not go unrecognised as the story was taken up by local radio.  What a fantastic bond they must have had as teenagers at school in Sheffield if 31 years later they could stand by a mate who had fallen on hard times.  Well done Class of '84 - you should be very proud of yourselves.

On this sombre note sadly the first day of Janet and Hadge's holiday was marred by the death of a holidaymaker staying at the apartments.  The circumstances are not yet clear - as we arrived down in Polis mid-afternoon the ambulance was outside and the lady was being taken to Paphos hospital.  It would appear that she may have had a heart attack but that is speculation.   It understandably cast a cloud over everyone there.

How very sad - we really never know what is round the corner and so should live for the moment and cherish every day.
