Not exactly Rats but our day has been dominated by MOUSEGATE
We were just planning a swim when John thought he could hear something coming from behind the bookcase in the lounge - with ears pinned to the ground we traced it to behind the wood paneling! blimey the woodworm must be worse than we thought!
John tentatively removed a panel and a little mouse shot out - last seen heading under the sofa. I was despatched off to get a wet tea towel - for reasons best known only to John - and then we turfed the whole house upside down - no evidence of the mouse who must have bolted to freedom early doors but lots and lots of evidence of it having been in the house for more than a day. Fortunately all our food is stored in cupboards at head height so unless it was some sort of rodent free-runner that remained safe - it had however danced a merry dance around all the bottom cupboards even though we have no idea how it got in some of them.
Everything has now been cleaned and disinfected to within an inch of its life and we are satisfied that the mouse has left the house - what on earth is the point in having four cats we ask ourselves - their cards are marked and if they are not careful their bags will be packed and they will be turfed out!
After such excitement and having got ourselves very very very hot and sticky we were really looking foward to our trip down to Latchi for an evening swim and a bit of a picnic with Louise and Hywel.
The beach is relatively busy as it is prime holiday season and the Cypriots love the beach but they all tend to assemble around La Plage with barely enough space for a pin to be placed between them so we make camp further along towards the campsite where it is normally fairly deserted. We found ourselves a quiet spot only to be joined by five adults and nine children shortly afterwards even though there was plenty of space just a bit further along!
We stayed until dark but failed to see any shooting stars or evidence of meteor showers but to be fair we probably should have stayed a bit longer. We really want to see the baby turtles hatching - some started last night but much further along the beach - people in the know, knew and posted evidence on Facebook this morning - we had thought you had to wait until full moon in September at this rate that will be far too late!
Anyway a lovely evening was had by all - the sea was warm and the swim constitutes our weekly bath (as we only have a shower-room!).
We are just making the most of our free time before we have an influx of visitors to the island.
