Sunday - new experiences

This morning we woke to rather strange weather with the wind blowing and grey skies - it can mean only one thing - Sean and Sharon are due out!  The weather always seems to change just before they arrive!!  Having said that a couple of hours later the sun had burned all that cloud off and it looked like it was going to be yet another scorcher.

We are out for lunch today with Mum and Dad to a venue that none of us have been to before but which was recommended to us by Sheila and Klaus - actually to be fair they didn't recommend it, the told us about it and I thought it would be somewhere different for us to go - more about that later...

...as part of Pam's late night shopping last night she bought me a little pottery angel (for an angel apparently - she is clearly deluded).  It was a lovely gift and I shall hang it outside under the gazebo where we hang lots of little bits and pieces that we want to keep.

It was a bit of a lazy start to this morning - we were going to rendez-vous with Mum and Dad at 12.30 and then go in one car to the new eatery.  Apparently it can be difficult to find so we thought it safest to go in one car so that if we got lost we got lost together and we would only have one car to park if parking was at a premium!

We seem to have done nothing but eat for months - and it doesn't look like stopping anytime soon as George and Pam still have three weeks here, Sean and Sharon are out for a month and then my Aunt and Uncle will be here on holiday and then before you know it, it will be Christmas!!

We met up with Mum and Dad and found our way to the lunch venue very easily - in fact as usual we arrived early and had the pick of the tables in the garden - which is on two levels, the top terrace near the house and the bottom terrace which is beautifully secluded and surrounded by greenery and probably harbours every biting thing known to man so we plumped for the upper terrace.  There are tables indoors too but the charm of the venue is in the garden.

If you think I am being cagey about this place then you are right, it is the sort of hidden gem that you want to keep to yourself but at the same time need enough people to go to make sure it stays in business.  So if you want to have details then message me and I will spill the beans!!!

We were given the warmest of welcomes and sat down to study the menu and were suprised by the choices available as the food was being produced from a little domestic kitchen.  We were even more surprised when we were given a list of 'specials' to supplement the already comprehensive menu choices.  First off we got the drinks sorted with Dad and I plumping for a beautifully chilled and fruity Tsangarides rose which was really just too easy to drink!  For starters mum and I had home made carrot and orange soup which was delicious, John opted for spare ribs and Dad a prawn cocktail in an edible basket with salad garnish. For main mum had duck in a fruit sauce, I had chicken cooked with pineapple and peppers, Dad had kleftiko and John a fillet steak all served with hand cut chips and baby carrots which had been roasted in mint and cumin.  For pud I had a creme brulee, John had lime cheesecake and Dad had what he (and Klaus last week) declared to be the best apple pie to be served on the island ever.  Dad says that whoever did the cooking must have spent time in a professional kitchen because the standard was so high.  Everything was beautifully presented and the meal was topped off with a complementary brandy or liqueur of choice (providing they had it).  It was really really lovely sitting there and we will be back again very soon I am sure.

After the grey start it had turned out to be exceptionally hot today - lunch in the garden had been lovely as we were not so exposed to the rays.  By the time we got back to Drouseia we were dripping!!  We had decided to go down to the beach at Limni for a swim and meet up with Lou and H and check out whether any of the turtle nests felt like hatching out especially as Lou thought it was a full or a fullish moon and they are supposed to like to emerge with a full moon.  Friends of ours actually saw turtles hatching early evening the other week.

We reckon there are now more nests on Limni beach than ever before and we think that is because environmentalists want to make sure that they don't build the two golf courses they keep talking about which would probably ruin this area.  Louise and I walked along having a good look at the nests - what does a nest look like that is about to spill baby turtles?  Can you see a difference?  Can you hear anything?  No Idea!

Needless to say we didn't see anything but we think that John managed to stop a bloke with a big stick digging up a nest.  Whatever he was upto (good or bad) he didn't stay around long with John bearing down on him with camera in hand!

We were treated to another beautiful sunset and counted ourselves very very lucky to have this all on our doorstep.
