So although we were willing to walk the route of the clean-up today our fellow cleaners wimped out so we decided that we would take a walk and get some fresh air after we had got the house sorted following a day of snow and freezing overnight temperatures. John's priority was to clear the PV and Solar panels so that they could do their job if the sun shone today. Not a nice job as he has to balance on the ridge of the roof which is difficult at the best of times but when it is freezing cold and icy I don't envy him at all.
The snow he pushed off of the panels and the conservatory roof could have made a fair old snowman if my hands hadn't been so cold!!! It is not unusual for us to have snow at this time of year - I looked back on the blog and saw that it was similar last year although maybe not so much in such a short time.
The cats are not overly impressed by the conditions. Boo-boo did venture out and sat uncomfortably on the top of the shed - clearly looking at the tracks others had done the same. Something had caught his eye but although he got up and gave it a hard stare he then sat back down and gave it a stiff ignoring. He came back in shaking his feet and looking pretty pissed off by the whole affair!
We decided to just to a circuit around the village and called into the Mukhtar to explain that it was too cold and wet for the clean but we would reorganise. I didn't want him to think I had taken the bin bags and wasn't going to use them for the village's benefit. He wasn't worried and invited us to sit with him for coffee - we politely declined because at that point we hadn't really walked very far and we knew that if we sat down in the warm we would stay there and not go any further.
Sadly there are too may buildings like this in the village - belonging to who knows how many people due to the bizarre inheritance laws here - people who live all around the world and like the idea that they own a little piece of Cyprus but never visit, never maintain and never agree when someone expresses and interest in buying. It is a shame as these properties are just left to deteriorate. Thank goodness for the school in the village because without it the village would surely die as there would be no young families to keep it going.
They are currently being kept company by a hunting dog which disappears when we go close. I think it has been dumped unless it belongs to the family that owns the horses and they have left it there - I doubt it - I am guessing that it manages to get some food from somewhere as it doesn't look like it is starving at the moment.

This evening we were being taken out by John and Susan as a thank you for looking after Millie over Christmas. Susan was brought up in South Africa and they had chosen The Lodge down in Paphos for our meal.It was lovely to go somewhere different and it was a fabulous venue - it felt like we were somewhere on holiday when we were sat inside - it was so kind of them to take us somewhere different - certainly somewhere much more upmarket than we normally frequent!!!
