Doing my bit for the environment

We had an unexpected day at home today because we had insufficient players for our Friday game of pickleball but having played yesterday I wasn't too bothered and John had taken Mum and Dad out to lunch and we will be having lunch with them on Sunday so will still have seen them three times this week - which we try to do most weeks.  This will, of course, throw us out of sync all weekend as we will think, and feel, that today is Saturday!!

It was a glorious start to the day and with the sun streaming through into the conservatory making it toasty warm Charlie was taking full advantage and get the air to his fat belly and bits!  We had a leisurely start to the day and then got into our scruffers to get some jobs done.

Encouraged by the half-decent job I made of the curtains on the coast side of the conservatory we decided that the ones of the opposite side would benefit from being the right length.

I had looked at doing it previously but they were only marginally too long and in order to shorten them I had to let the existing hem down first and take up both the lining and the curtains so had left them as they were but knew that they would look so much better if they were the correct length and they do.

It being a lovely day I got the washing done and out on the line - it feels so good to do that in February and to know that after only a short period of time it will all be lovely and dry with just the ironing left to be done!!!  That can be tomorrow's job!

I had a text message from ACS the courier company in Polis to say I had a parcel - I wasn't actually expecting anything but John thought we should go down and see what had arrived.  Polis is preparing for Carnival time with bunting up in the streets - there is an air of festivity about the place and the lovely weather makes it feel like spring is on its way - certainly our long term weather forecast doesn't show any rain for the next week or so.

My parcel at ACS was my free recycling kit from Green-Dot - I had seen it advertised on the internet and applied for it - lots of bags and some information about the recognised recycling centres on the island and what they will take so not bad for nothing!!

We decided that we would take a run out to the Vasillikon winery as John's wine rack is looking sadly depleted and it was such a nice day to take the journey cross country although we hadn't quite anticipated quite so much mud on the roads.

When we were there last with John Wares we all had a pitta and then afterwards we realised we had been charged for four and not the three we had had.  John had a joke with Maria about it when we saw her in Fitos's the other evening and she said she would sort it out when we went next but she wasn't working today!

It was really busy at the winery as they had a group from Israel there having a tour but Yiannis ushered me to one of the new high backed sofas and said he would light the fire for us.

John went to order some pittas for lunch and a bottle of wine and casually mentioned the overcharge more as a joke than anything but when they brought today's pittas they said that lunch was on them - we thought they meant the two pittas but they meant it all - to say sorry for overcharging us - RESULT - to be fair they got it back as we bought a box of Agios to replenish the wine rack!!!

Lovely day - a bonus really for the two of us to do something different to the norm and we still have Saturday and Sunday to go.  We returned home to watch Molly's Game which was not a bad film and to sample the wine!
