Saturday at home

We had a Saturday at home which having had a Friday at home meant it felt like Sunday!!!

I am all over our curtains now like a rash.  I decided that today I would tackle the double layer of voiles that hang behind the dreadful yellow curtains.  Not that the curtains are awful but that taking them up had been an awful job.  The voiles were purchased from Jumbos so were of haphazard sizing, not square and different lengths and had, for the past couple of years, provided a playground for the cats, they looked a mess and as a result gave the whole conservatory an air of Clampettsville that I was keen to eradicate.  It took me forever but eventually this morning I managed to get the voiles on the long run of sliding doors taken up so that they (a) are roughly square and (b) no longer skim the floor (or worse).  I have to say that in term so of end result they now look a million dollars rather than bargain basement.  The effort was worth it!!!

We had no reason for us to go out today, we were all good for food so it was a day at home getting jobs done and sorting ourselves out before John sat down for the football later today.  It was a nice day and for that we should be very grateful because this time last year we had snow!!!  In fact we had a good day of sunshine and now we are reaching the territory when we generate more than we use so we can afford to be a bit gung-ho about it all before they zero the meter at the end of April!  Our last bill showed that we were in credit but only by 21 units!

I managed to get my sewing done and washing done before spending a little time in the garden clearing up some of the leaves which have fallen and pulling out the weeds which are running amok - we have a massive infestation of that sticky weed and couch grass at the moment.

If we are at home the cats tend to stick around the house and garden with us and if we are out in the garden they are never far away so Chivers took the opportunity to go on a tree climb in the mock pear tree which is next door.

The warmer temperatures and longer days are invigorating - We are filled with a desire to get so much more accomplished so we are writing and re-writing to do lists and looking at what our budget will allow us to achieve this year.  We have some regular maintenance which is a MUST and then we have a load of 'would like' projects if the funds will stretch.

No worries about food today - we have leftover curry and naan breads from Wednesday night when Gillian and David joined us for supper.  This would only need warming up so the remainder of the afternoon was mine to do as I pleased.

When John was at Mum and Dad's on Thursday he picked a whole load of lemons from their tree and so I took some time to make some lemon pickle.  This is a real winner and we polished off the remainder of my last batch on Wednesday.  20 minutes in the microwave is all it takes and then 24 hours in a jar before it can be eaten.  I shall be offering the excess to the Bobster because I know he likes a bit of this when he has cheese and biscuits.

Apart from the abysmal football result when the Blades met with Wolves this afternoon it was a great day - still you can't have everything!
