A new week...

So a new week begins and we wonder what will be thrown at us next - hopefully we are in for some peaceful time - we have our fingers crossed - I feel exhausted.

Our first job of the day was to take Kenny down for its MOT which is due tomorrow.  The Ministry of Transport kindly send us a text as a reminder which is good because here MOTs are every 2 years.

Down in the vast hangar that is Andreas's garage is a room dedicated to MOTs inside which was this beautiful old car which, judging by the dust all over it, has sadly not moved in a while.  John tries to get across to Savvas (Andreas's son-in-law and my saviour when it came to tyregate) that we need an MOT, the brakes checked and sorted if necessary and my squealing fanbelt sorted.  We leave hopeful that this did not get lost in translation but if it did we will at least get the MOT sorted in time and the rest can be done later.

Although it was Monday I was foregoing my usual art lesson so that we could play hosts to John's cousin Gail, her daughter Faye and grandson Leo who have been staying in Universal for the past week.  Sadly this was to have been Faye's honeymoon but it was not to be.  They are going home today, John will be taking them to the airport and we wanted their last day to be fun.

Leo came and made friends with the cats, he loves cats (they have two: Ringo and Star) and he particularly fell in love with Charlie who clearly thought Leo might be a soft touch for some food although he was to be sadly disappointed.

We strolled along the coast path at Latchi and stopped at Molos for lunch.  After great deliberation and discussion Leo opted for the Chicken Nuggets and thankfully I had filled my handbag with Heinz Tomato Sauce sachets because apparently that is the only tomato sauce that should be eaten!  Thankfully visitors have collected them from various establishments during their stay and given them to me when they left - I often wondered when they would come in useful and today was the day.

Leo is a lad who knows what he likes, and likes what he knows so having chosen ate the lot which is good to see.  He is amusing, as Faye says he spends a lot of time with adults so his conversation can be adult and old-fashioned, she swears he has trodden this earth in a previous life.  The other evening when I ordered a black coffee he asked me if I had chosen it from the Beverages List - which 9 year old uses the term Beverages????

We wandered along the marina until we came to the Icecream parlour by Waves where Leo had the biggest tub of vanilla and Ferrero Rocher icecream which he devoured but only once he had let it melt into a suitable consistency for drinking!

We couldn't come back up through the village without stopping at the Hotel for cocktails and mocktails and even had to move into the shade because it was so warm out on the terrace.  They loved it and they loved the view - I know I say it again and again but we are so very lucky to have this establishment in the village and the staff are so fabulous.  Dad loved the hotel and we had some very very good times there right until the end.

On our return to Villa 10B we persuaded Leo to go into the pool because let's face it children don't feel the cold like adults do.

He braced himself and jumped in and then declared it was 'Bloody Freezing' but as I explained to him it was in fact a balmy 68 degrees and we had swum in it until the temperature dropped to 50 degrees last year.  I don't think he believed me.

I hope they have had a good holiday - it is not what any of them would have expected but the weather has been really kind (except for Friday which was overcast and windy) and Faye has a job interview on her return tomorrow so hopefully this will go well and it will be the beginning of a fresh new start for her and Leo.

I said goodbye to them here in Droushia and John took them down to Universal to pack up and then on to the airport - they are on the redeye Manchester flight which does not get in until 1.00am and only then if you are lucky.

John returned home safe and sound - no re-occurrence of tyregate thank goodness.  With Belly Dancing cancelled we had a quiet evening and an early night.
