We are taking the opportunity of a few days at home to get loads of stuff sorted - for once there are now just a few things on the 'To-Do' list and they are still there because (a) it is too hot to get them done or (b) we currently don't have the money. It has taken a while to get into the swing of DIY but I am secretly enjoying it and it is so good to tick things off of the list. Over the last few weeks we have nearly decorated everything outside and inside and then some!
John had physio this morning so I got him to drop me off in Polis and I had a little wander before heading to Paps where he was to meet me.
There are some fabulous buildings in Polis which you can easily miss when you are in a rush but today I had plenty of time to wander the streets and check out the architecture. John dropped me on the street where CYTA resides and I walked down calling into the charity bookshop and having a browse before calling into the cat charity shop and Paphiakos in search of a table lamp to go in the conservatory - I didn't find one sadly!
I dropped into the new vets to get a worming tablet for Minnie Mou but the guy couldn't or wouldn't sell me something her ears as he was the son and his father, the vet, was out on call. It wasn't a big deal I just thought I would see what they had to offer as I was passing.
I called into a number of shops before going into Paps where I had expected to be able to go upstairs to the cafe and have a drink whilst waiting for John to finish at the physio but sadly the cafe has been closed - probably for some time!
Having done our shopping we headed home but I still wanted some gunk for Minnie's ears so got John to stop in Prodromi where our vet, Dr Inna, has moved her Polis surgery (it used to be opposite Bambos the Butchers). There is a new coffee shop/cafe which has been opened - we had seen the work being done to an old traditional house across the way from the bowling alley and now it is open - it looks like there is to be a huge windmill erected in the garden. My trip to the vets was not fruitful - she wouldn't give me any ear gunk without seeing Minnie - well good luck with that one!!

A new little sandwich caravan has popped up on our way home from Polis and John has said on a number of occasions that he wanted to try it so today was the day and we called in to have a spot of lunch. Alina's is a clean and well organised establishment which now sports a number of gazebo covered eating areas. John went for a cold sandwich and chips and I had a really good Chicken Caesar Salad and we each had a soft drink and it was only 10 euros! We would certainly use it again.
I had put our bedding in for a wash so when I got home it was good and dry and I wanted to make the bed but my efforts were thwarted by Mr Boo who was fast asleep and very comfortable thank you very much on our bed taking advantage of the cool breeze coming in through the window. You cannot blame him - all the cats are suffering in the hot weather. Charlie is a shadow of his former self even though he is eating just as much as he normally does.
I eventually managed to get Boo to move so we were to have fresh hay this evening.
We finished our DIY, had showers and I was just thinking about what we were to have for tea when John suggested wandering into the village and having a drink before tea.
We haven't done this for ages and it was such a lovely evening that it seemed a shame not to make the effort so we fed the cats, made sure they weren't following us and then took a walk into the village, the long way going up past Sean and Sharon's and up to the cheese factory and past the school.
We decided to stop at O Stathmos and sit under the vines and then we realised that there was a TV in a box outside and the Denmark game was being televised.
What a fabulous place to sit and watch the footie and we had a few beers and asked to pay and then Bambos sent over one from him which I think was the one which tipped me over the edge. Let's just say whatever I had been thinking about for tea went out the window by the time I got home - poor John had to make do with a bag of crisps!!! Sorry hun but if you will make me go and watch footie and have a beer before tea then you know it is likely to end in tears!
So here we are enjoying the very best of the village and reminding ourselves that we are, indeed, very lucky to be living where we do in the way that we do.
