More decorating today - we have gone decorating mad!!!! Today my job was to tackle the door surround to the back door. We had all the external doors and windows replaced with aluminium double glazed units before we moved over but for some reason the back door (which is technically our front door) still had a wooden surround which was looking well past its best - dry and flaky so John had done his best to sand it down but there were lots of ridges that the sander couldn't get into so I slapped some pink primer on it which ran out before I got to the end of the frame and we needed so little to finish that we decided to just carry on regardless. Painting with gloss in these temperatures is a nightmare it seems to go thick and tacky but not dry anyway I persevered and eventually got sufficient coats onto it for it to look better than it had done previously and that is good enough for me!
Our next project was to tackle the repair needed on the large cantilever brolly that sits over the table at the back (or is that the front) of the house. The wind had got to it and ripped the fabric cap which keeps the whole thing in place.
We can buy replacement covers for the gazebos but not for these brollies and to be fair they are now so much cheaper that they have almost become throw-away items but there is so much metal left over if the cover dies that it seems criminal to just ditch them.
We had an old cap from a gazebo which we were going to use to make a new cap for the brolly so John got Mum's trusty sewing machine out and we started on the job - just as we were starting Kim pitched up - she had been on her way to Paps via Kritou Terra when she had noticed the engine management light was on the car that comes with the villa she and Steve are renting. Sensibly as she wasn't too far from us she limped the car up the hill and got John to check it over before finding out that this was in fact a known issue with this particular car so she needn't have worried. Still we had time for a chat before she completed her shopping trip warning light and all.

It was a tad fiddly but eventually we cobbled together something that will see us through this summer and as a result John was happy to sit out the back.
We have plans for that area but we are not sure what! It isn't top of our list but at some point it would be nice to get rid of the shingle because it makes it difficult to move the chairs and table around and it would be good to get some permanent shade erected but with the pump house on one side and the wall turrets on the other this is going to be difficult - still one more list to tick off of John's list of things to do - that is if he had a list - the one that was on his i-pad mysteriously disappeared.
One of the other jobs I got done today was to sort and clean out the two fridges we have - John can only ever manage a 'man-look' so if things are not immediately obvious he declares that he cannot see them.
Today my fridges resembled a scene like something out of Sleeping with the Enemy - everything neatly stored and easily visible!!!
I did find a few bits that had evaded me on a fridge surprise night and which needed to be shown to the bin which I hate doing.
We had a light lunch as having chatted to Kim and ascertained that Steve was much improved since Friday we would go out together this evening for a meal at Fitos. Steve is still by no means fighting fit but seems to be making small improvements each day which is good news.
I grabbed a few minutes this afternoon to try and decide what my next picture is going to be - Monday will come around all too quickly!!!
When we walked down to the village the other evening I took a photograph of the front door of the house of my friend Georgia whose family lives in South Africa.
We noticed that the doors and windows were open so I took the photograph to send it to Georgia and also because I thought I might use it for my next picture. Georgia tells me that her dad Athos is there so when we are next passing we are to go in and make ourselves known to him.
I am still undecided so will continue looking!!!
We had an early meal with Kim and Steve - with Kim, Steve and I sharing two of Fitos's fabulous steak and mushroom pies - John didn't partake for obvious reasons!!
They really enjoyed their evening - they hadn't been to Fitos before and were suitably impressed. Having bigged up the sunsets from that venue tonight's was strange - looks like the weather is not so settled after all.
