A few quiet days...

We have a few quiet days in the diary before family arrive next week.   Quiet is optimistic I guess because (a) one of the neighbours has decided to carry out refurbishment works on a villa and whilst building industry workers are not normally operational for the next two weeks, it being prime Cypriot holiday time, she has employed two local Syrians who don't take any notice of this and (b) our immediate neighbours are arriving today for a week so we will be on double invites for coffee and meals out which is really kind of them and they are good neighbours to have so we like to spend time with them.  All I can say is Thank God for Bassam's wall which protects us from all sorts including Syrians with jackhammers!

On a day of running errands we found ourselves close by to where Mina and Claire live and run their dog kennels Hounds on Holiday.  Sadly they have recently lost their lovely dog Molly who succumbed to cancer after a valiant fight.  Yes she was elderly but her passing has been no less painful for Mina and Claire and so we thought we would pop our heads around the door and see how they were doing.  We were due to be spending time with them when Molly passed away.  We should have let them know we were coming because as it happens they weren't there but I managed to speak to Mina on the phone and once all our visitors have been and gone we will get together.

We decided to take the scenic route back via Theletra - the countryside is now looking very grey and dusty and tinder dry and the night before last there was a huge fire right by the campsite in Polis.  Fortunately no-one was hurt and the happy campers were moved away to safety on the beach.

Old Theletra is a weird place and is a predominantly abandoned village although some of the houses do seem to be inhabited - John says that if he lived there it would worry him to death that one of the less stable structures would crash down onto our home in the night - which would be about our luck.  Anyway if you click on the Old Theletra link above you will see an article about several abandoned villages.

We made our way back home and the promise of the remainder of the day doing next to nothing - we were both shattered so a gentle potter around was in order - that and a search for Chivers who had not come for breakfast this morning and was not in evidence on our return.  With all the houses here that can be occupied, occupied, except for George and Pam's there are so many more places for the cats to investigate and in so doing get shut in.  We don't know where Chivers had been laid up but he put in an appearance early afternoon looking confused as to why we should have been worried about him.

In my search for Popstar I had gone up onto the roof terrace and noticed that there was a lovely flower on the cactus that Galatia had given me years ago for Easter.  I think this is the second flowering this year and the blooms only last one day so I was pleased to capture it before it wilted and disappeared.  I have promised that this is going to be the next picture that I do and I am going to give it to Kim and Steve.

We may have an early morning trip down to Mum tomorrow - she has an issue with her fridge freezer - hopefully it isn't major but at the moment the warning light to say it is too hot is coming on.
