Sorry...

It was an awful morning here at Villa 10b - we knew we had a mouse in the pump-room and I had reluctantly set two traps.  These traps are supposed to be instantaneous as we hate the sticky pad method which leaves anything trapped in agony.  John went to check the first trap and sure enough we had caught and killed a mouse.  I couldn't look - I felt so guilty but we really had to do it as our bloody cats aren't doing their job.  John then went to check the second trap but it wasn't there - he questioned whether I had set it and I knew I had because I had checked it last night.  It meant that it had gone off and we needed to find it.  In the end we turned everything out of the pump house finding evidence and smell of mouse everywhere - our winter duvet set was ruined and went straight to the bin.  We were so upset to find two little pink wriggling baby mice which were till alive and which we could do nothing for and then finally we found the missing trap attached to the leg of another adult mouse which was running around with it attached.  It was a painful decision but John had to kill it to put it out of its misery.  I know we had to get rid of them but I was so upset so we had tears before breakfast - both John and I hate killing any living thing so this was not a nice experience for either of us.

We now have a super clean, mouse free pump house and we have set a trap as a precaution just in case there were other family members which we didn't get the first time.

The cleaning of the pump house had a knock on effect so I decided to tackle the glory hole which is under the kitchen sink.  This area drives John absolutely mad because I have an awful habit of just pulling something out of the basket and then just shoving it back in without removing the basket and putting it back in properly.  He is right - I do not seem to have the 'keeping the cupboards and drawers tidy' gene!  I start off with all good intentions but then it all goes out of the window.

So we were having a quiet day today - I had planned to go to Polis to do some shopping but it was just too hot so we spent the time around the house doing bits and bobs then jumped into the pool to cool down.

We have Nicky and Mark coming at the weekend for one of their regular visits so needed to get the house and their bedroom in some semblance of order!

I had a couple of crafty jobs I wanted to do - Mum had bought some clip curtain tie backs but they weren't big enough for the curtains so I have rebuilt them with some ribbon and magnets so they should fit ok.  Then I wanted to redo our wine sign which had become quite faded in the sunshine so now it is all spruced up and back in situ.  I desperately want to start on my chair project but it is too hot and I haven't got the chalk paint yet - I think it will be an Autumn task.

So this evening we had been invited to the Veasey's for a barbeque which was great - we always have a good time at theirs - good food, company and music!  We decided to walk down - at 6.00pm it was still very very warm it was nice to have a wander down through the village past the Australians, Lush's, Savvas the Tyreman's and Similides.

It was the most beautiful evening, balmy and warm with no condensation so it was great to sit outside chatting and drinking and enjoying some really lovely food - I cannot believe that Di got John to eat and ENJOY sweetcorn!!!!  All the food was lovely but the chicken kebabs were absolutely melt in your mouth so well done Di and I was well impressed with the Mojito mix stuff because that made a really nice pre-dinner cocktail!

I have abolutely no idea where the time went last night - we arrived at 6.30pm and set off their loopy neighbours' security system as we walked down the public footpath accompanied by strains of "Warning Warning you are on Security Camera" - I can't believe that happens everytime someone walks past - still it would appear that he is a complete nutter so I shouldn't really be surprised - he has already put up cameras all over the place and been told by the police to take them down!

Anyway as I said we arrived at 6.30pm and the next time I looked at my watch it was 12.30am - how did that happen - if it hadn't been for the fact that we were all tired we could probably have stayed there till the sun rose - we were all so chilled.

So a big thanks to Di and Rob for an absolutely lovely evening and we got too raise our heart rates on the walk home - that Cardiac Hill is an absolute killer especially when you are full of lovely food!!
