Oniros by the Sea...

We had planned for Laura and Mark to come and spend a bit of time with us today and then we would go to Oniros by the Sea for sundowners and something to eat.  We had visited there the first time they came and visited and they had liked it then and it has changed and improved so much since its early days that we wanted to go back with them.

We had a bit of an accident with garden furniture today when Laura sat on a foot stool and her bum carried on through the material - it has made a new rocking bed for Boris so he isn't complaining but we now acknowledge that the time has come to buy some new stuff - none of it really owes us anything and recently we had the incident where a chair collapsed with John in it and the set that is in the front garden is slowly but surely disintegrating so maybe we can pick something up in the end of season sales.

The Pamments arrived mid morning and we spent the day in the garden dipping in and out of the pool - last year when they stayed in the Spa they more or less had it to themselves but this year it is much busier so they are grateful to have ours to escape to.  I am guessing the Spa has some sort of policy regarding drinking in the pool too!!  The weather today was hugely different to when they came up on Thursday - not a cloud in the sky and much more like they would want to experience as holidaymakers.  It makes no real difference to us as we rarely sit out in the sun.  So we had a light lunch together, just salad and dips in anticipation of our meal later today and relaxed together before they returned to their hotel for a shower.

Laura very kindly offered to drive which was lovely because the last few times we have been to Oniros I have driven and watched the others sampling some of the luscious sounding cocktails that they have on offer.  We timed it just right arriving just before the evening kitchen opens and securing a nice table before the rush.  Poor Laura had a guy sat behind her smoking some sort of cheroot thingy that stank but fortunately he moved places shortly after we sat down so that was good.

They do all sorts of drinks so along with alcoholic cocktails they do a non-alcoholic mocktail version so Laura and I both chose the passion fruit mojito but mine had the addition of rum - they were both delicious and I mean absolutely delicious.  The boys stuck to beer which, if you take into consideration the venue, is reasonably priced.

As the kitchens re-opened and the sun went down the place began to really fill up and before long there were about 50 people hanging around waiting for a table to become free.  Fortunately Oniros have adopted an electronic system so that people check in and are given a keypad which lights up and vibrates when their table is available and so it is pretty impossible for someone to come in and grab a vacant table without waiting.  People try and watching them trying to circumnavigate the system that is in place is hilarious!

Having had what seems like most of the year eating and drinking I am veering towards salads at the moment so tonight I chose the marinated fig, halloumi and orange salad which was lovely but too big - Laura had the same and the boys worked their way through the meat sharing platter.  We had nibbled through some garlic bread with lemon dip, edamame beans with chorizo and olives beforehand which was why I felt stuffed afterwards!  I know that this place is more expensive than some where we eat but it is just that little bit different and the views are priceless.

It was a very very warm evening and we were treated to a wonderful sunset - by the time we left it was still 31 degrees down on the coast and even up here in Droushia it was in the upper 20s.  Mark and Laura dropped us off and returned to the Spa - we were grateful because we had had such a late night the night before that we were knackered.  They are having a day at the beach tomorrow and so we will catch up with them tomorrow night for a drink and a game of cards.
