A Touch of Luxury

I am not normally one to complain but if I experience poor service that really does upset me so today I had a right old rant with Amazon because I had ordered something, been given a price with delivery to Cyprus, been told it had been despatched and delivered and NOTHING so I asked where my item was only to be told by the Amazon shop that they were refunding my money because they didn't know how much it was to post to Cyprus so the item had not been despatched at all.  I was less than amused and I let them know and I let Amazon know and eventually Amazon told me that if I reordered they would guarantee delivery at the same price and track the parcel - I bloody well hope so because it is our replacement Winter duvet after Mr and Mrs Mouse and Family made their home in our previous one which was stored in the pump room.  Even more annoying is that Lidl recently had the same sort of 2-in-1 All Seasons duvet for sale and Mum offered to get me one and I declined.

I had occasion for some 'constructive criticism' much earlier in the year when we took friends to the Elysium for afternoon tea and it really was not up to the standard that we have experienced previously.  Our friends, not having been before, didn't know any different but we did and so I sent a nice email telling them about our visit and they had offered for us to return at some point so that they could rectify the matter.  We just hadn't had the opportunity until now.

When we went earlier in the year the hotel had reopened after a refurbishment and having known the hotel previously we were a bit unsure about the changes but returning and looking again with a fresh pair of eyes the hotel is stunning with so much space and attention to detail and it was the attention to detail that was missing last time in terms of the service.

Our neighbours have been very good to us and what with one thing and another have had rather a stressful time of things recently so we thought it would be nice to take them out of Droushia and experience a bit of refinement!!!!

The hotel staff were expecting us and had allocated us a nice quiet table inside - we had thought about sitting outside but it was very warm so we were glad to be in the air-conditioned alcove.  Today everything was impeccable - we were served by a fabulous Greek guy called Nicolaou who was attentive without being 'in your face' and apart from our teas and coffees being a bit late in arriving everything else was excellent and as an added bonus the hotel provided a bottle of 'bubbles' which was unexpected but welcome!!!

We took our time over the afternoon tea before taking a leisurely stroll around the hotel and its grounds.  It is impressive and there is an air of genteel calm in the area which is designated as the 'drawing' room - I love the colours and the style of the furniture although I did like it previously when it was set out as a Library with squashy old leather sofas and chairs.

The weather in Droushia had been quite unsettled when we left - I think I felt a spot or two of rain but down in Paphos on the coast it was fabulous.  The gardens benefited from the colours and shadows of the afternoon sun.  There is so much space here and nooks and crannies and fabulous landscaping and planting.  This little seating area reminds me of Elaine.  When she married Paul we came to the hotel to take their wedding photographs and several were taken with them sitting in this structure.

Who could not fail to be impressed by this vista of the smaller secluded swimming pool with its Roman fountains?  We did agree though that if this was your way of life, day in, day out, then you probably take it all for granted and what a shame that is.  We just felt very grateful to be having a little taste of luxury this afternoon!

We returned home to the rural charm of Droushia and quickly fed the cats and gave them a bit of love before shooting off down to Polis to spend a couple of hours with our visitors.  They seem to have an unwelcome guest of the rodent kind - either that or a resident lizard - so we took down our trusty trap in the hopes that it will be successful.

We spent some time refining the itinerary we have planned for the next two weeks this has involved quite a bit of crossing out as we realise Monday is a Bank Holiday so things may be closed plus my aunt and uncle arrive on Tuesday and will be coming to stay so when we plan we have to make sure that we keep everyone happy!

We returned home to have a quiet drink together before collapsing into bed.  We had bought a specialist gin from Lidl a few weeks ago when it had been on offer and had been saving it - indeed I had had to stop John giving it to his Mum because I had been looking forward to tasting it for myself.  This Ruby of Rangoon Gin was flavoured with far eastern botanicals - NO SHIT it was foul!!!!!  It had an overriding aroma and taste of coriander, aniseed and basil which is not a combination I am familiar with nor wish to experience again!!
