John's cousin Karen and her partner Dip are over for a month staying at their apartment in Universal and we had arranged to meet up with them and Nicky and Mark at the Brewery this afternoon for a late lunch and a catch up. We hadn't realised that they had not actually been to the Brewery before and Nicky and Mark not since the Brewery opened their winter indoor drinking area and we went on a grey wet and grim day and it was grey wet and grim inside. Things have moved on a long way since then and, as the weather forecast was not too good, I had booked for us to sit inside and we were right next to the pizza over so were warm and toasty. We possibly could have sat outside but it was quite breezy and that makes your food go cold.
The aroma coming from the pizza oven made our decisions about eating easy - Pizzas all round! I have to say that Pizza is not my most favourite meal but was happy to go with the flow but think I made the wrong decision with mine - I have always had the goats cheese, fig and rocket combo here before but this was not quite as I remembered it and so was a bit disappointing - it was drenched in balsamic vinegar which I like but not to that extent! Still everyone else seemed to enjoy theirs so just the wrong choice on my part.
The forecast bad weather held off whilst we were out but there were reports of heavy rain and high winds making their way across the island and so we got home and battened down the hatches. We had already taken in the gazebo covers and I had been up and secured the furniture on the roof terrace. The builders across the way had started to dig up the front garden outside 3a so if the bad weather did arrive it was going to be a right old mess over there and, we noticed that they had cut a door in the extension upstairs which was open to the elements so any rain coming from the North would just go straight in. We think the estimate of there being 3 weeks worth of work left which was given about a month ago was more than a little optimistic. We will just be glad when they have finished - they leave their vehicles everywhere making it interesting trying to park.
Battened down the house looks lovely - it is at its best when it is cooler as it has been furnished to be cosy. I am still not entirely sure about our burgundy/grey combo going on in the lounge/diner but it is growing on me and I got a nice table cloth from Jumbos which I actually ironed albeit in situ! I should have a runner in transit courtesy of Lovely Laura so this little €4.99 effort will do until it arrives.
The bad weather came - it was a short sharp shock - very heavy rain and hail and thunder and lightning and high winds but it didn't last long and Boris was stupid enough to be out in it and came back in absolutely soaking! We had towels at the ready for the cats and for the front door just in case the rain water did manage to breach the defences. We need not have worried, once the cats were in they stayed in or went out when the rain had stopped and the front door held firm. The bad weather returned in the early hours and as John and I were both awake we got up to make sure everything was ok and sat watching the storm with a coffee!
