Not the day I had expected...

I don't know quite what I had in mind for today but it was not the day I actually had.  We received a phonecall at around 7.00am - we were awake and reading the papers and having our early morning coffee but it still bothered me as I immediately thought there was a problem with Mum.  As it turned out it was Edda who lives up the road and who is the wife of Big Dave from the Droushia Dixie Seven and she was in a bit of a state as she needed to get down to Polis this morning because sadly on Saturday after a heavy storm she and David were involved in a car accident when it sounds like the car aquaplaned in a forward motion rather than making a left hand turn and in so doing they ended up hitting a barrier and ended up in a field.  They had both been taken to hospital but Edda had discharged herself - David was still there although he too discharged himself during the course of today.  Edda needed to go down to the car and rescue some things from inside - at this point she didn't know that it was a write-off but that became immediately apparent when Edda, her grandson David and I arrived.  As I knelt on the drivers seat to try and locate her glasses which I did and they were broken I collected a selection of fine and painful cuts from the glass shards from the shattered windscreen.  There was no sign of David's I-Phone which she thought had been on charge at the time of impact.  We collected what we could and then I took her on down to Polis so she could deal with the insurance.

I dropped her off and went to do some bits and pieces arranging to come back in an hour and then take her down to Paphos Hospital if that was required.  I had hoped to call in on Eva, Nitsa and Charoula at C&A Apartments but they had gone down to Paphos for the dentist.  I parked up near Moustakalis Taverna and was interested to see what progress had been made at Finikas opposite which has been closed for the season.  Progress is being made and the new glass fronted modern fascade is in sharp contrast to the tavern opposite.  It looks interesting but you have to wonder what the planners are thinking, if they are involved at all, because this really isn't in keeping with the quaint square in which it is situated.

Anyway I caught up with Edda and David and it was decided that we should go down to Paphos hospital via Droushia and taking the route where the accident had happened to see if we could locate the I-Phone which was still ringing when called.  Back at Droushia poor Edda realised that she had lost her house keys during the course of the morning although fortunately a neighbour had a spare set.  The I-Phone was not at the house or at least we couldn't hear it so we drove down to Paphos via Coral Bay to see if we could stop at the site of the accident, ring it and then retrieve it.  Sadly though on the way down Edda just couldn't recall exactly where it had happened so we carried on to the Hospital where she was hoping to meet up with Mark and Majik who were going to try and get Big Dave into a wheelchair and then home.  I checked later and Edda confirmed that they had been successful.

I had not planned to be in Paphos today but I was quite desperate for a haircut so I managed to get Lumi to squeeze me in so after dropping Edda and David off at the hospital I carried on to the Mall.  There is a social media page called "Parking Like a Twat in Cyprus" and today I had a prime candidate right in front of me - an Audi which was not only parked slap bang in the middle of two spaces but so far forward as to make cars swerve to drive by.

I got my hair cut for which I was so very grateful - it saved me having to make a second visit in a couple of days' time.

I had one or two bits and pieces on my Jumbos list so I took the opportunity to have a quick run through after I had been coiffed.  I know we are nearing the end of October but OMG they were beginning to fill the ground floor with hundreds and hundreds of Christmas Decorations in every shape and shade known to man!!!

After what had been rather a disjointed day for the two of us I returned home and John suggested we take a little walk into the village - it had been a very warm day and it was a lovely evening and the forecast for the next couple of days is pretty dire.  I was quite happy so we took a trip down to the cemetery to see Dad and his new neighbour and then walked up to the village to check the post and get a postcard from the post office which is part of a birthday box we are putting together and then stopped under the vines in O Stathmos for a beer and a nut.

Having been served with our beers Bambos announced that he had to go down to Polis and collect his son Spiros (who is now old enough to be learning to drive) and so we gathered that he wasn't going to be around for a while to take any money - not to worry because Sylvia his wife put in an appearance shortly afterwards so we were able to pay her but we know that even if that hadn't happened we would have been ok to go back tomorrow to settle our dues!!!  We haven't been down for a drink in a long time so it is nice when we do.  The village seems very quiet now.

The sky was amazing tonight - it would appear that the impending storm is having an effect on the clouds and the colours.  There is a full moon tomorrow night - it is called a Hunter's Moon.  The cloudier skies have meant the temperatures this evening felt quite warm - let's see what tomorrow brings.
