Charlie Charlie Charlie - please get well soon...

John and I are both very tired - after a very poor night's sleep and the tarantula episode and the fact that Charlie was so quiet and so lethartic I often couldn't see him breathing and kept getting up to check.  I am sleeping on the couch in the lounge to keep him company - I just want him to know that he is not alone.

We do not have him in a cage.  He was in a cage when we first saw him, he was only a few months old and had been abandoned down in Latchi and Irene from the village had brought him up to Droushia to try and find him a home.  Poor poor Charlie was lonely, scared and had cystitis and he associates a cage with bad things.  It is a challenge having him in the house and keeping him in the house and still trying to find some normality for the three others.

Today is the worst day we have had with him.  I am not sure if it is the tiredness or what but it is so much worse coping with him at home and seeing how he is than it was when he was in the vets and we didn't know how badly he was injured.

Visually he doesn't look too bad save for the massive sore he has under his chin where he has lost all his fur and a couple of layers of skin.  His right ear is full of scabs and is the ear which has fluid in it and the right side of his face isn't moving so his right eye is wide open all the time which makes him look like he is staring into space.

When we brought him home he was pretty alert, starving hungry, drinking loads, desperate to get out and vocal.  Today he was just fairly lifeless, he wasn't really hungry, avoided water, not too bothered about going out and silent and I just felt so sad for him.  We just do not know what to do for the best, we have been told that he needs to be kept as quiet as possible and taking him to the vets is just so stressful for him that we want to wait until his next appointment but we don't want to miss anything or for him to be in pain.  He does not appear to be in pain but we cannot be sure.

I rang the vets and after a long chat we decided that provided he didn't seem to get any worse today we should leave him to rest and then if he was still unchanged we would take him down to Prodromi tomorrow for a check up as this was closer - there is no vet there this afternoon and Dr Inna is in Limassol today anyway.

It was a long and fraught day and then early evening he took himself off to the litter tray.  I have never been so pleased to see a cat poo in all my life and the poo was normal.  Once he had poo'd he ate and seemed a little more lively and then he went back to his bed and slept but seemed to sleep more peacefully and it looked like his right eye was a little less open than it has been.  His breathing was not so shallow so I didn't need to keep checking him.  We will see how tonight goes and review him in the morning.
