I seem to spend my every waking hour scrutinising Charlie for signs of improvement - it is exhausting and upsetting. To be fair if you didn't know him you could look at him and think he was fine because outwardly there are very few visible signs of the accident except for some crud in his right ear and the sore underneath his chin as you can see from the photograph above.
We know that the right hand side of his face isn't working at all but that isn't obvious if you are just looking at him when he is awake because his ear is stuck upright and his eye wide open so he looks 'normal and alert' but anyone who knows his character will know that he is far from ok as he is so quiet and lethargic. Having said all that we are feeling a little more positive than we did yesterday because he isn't getting any worse and he is eating and has been using his letter tray.
Our cupboards were getting rather bare so John said he would go down to Polis to get some food and whilst he was out I had a phonecall from Fedex to say they were trying to find our house. This had to be the rug I had ordered from CarpetVista to go in the lounge. I arranged that John would catch up with the delivery van at the museum at the bottom of the village. We decided so we should get a rug for the lounge area because we are conscious that Mum feels the cold and bare tiles just do not give the impression of warmth. John bought our purchase home and unwrapped it and left it in the sunny conservatory to straighten out. It got an immediate seal of approval from Chivers but we will have to be careful when Minnie discovers it because she is quite fond of clawing at our mats, rugs and carpets.

I have bought rugs from CarpetVista before - they deliver free of charge to Cyprus which is a bonus and have some really good sales a couple of times a year. What I had purchased previously was more cotton kilim type for the conservatory and quite colourful and busy but I wanted something plain for the lounge. The one I chose was just charcoal grey and exactly what I was looking for and was under 100 euros and when I came to checkout the website prompted me that I had an unredeemed 'thank you' voucher from the company which reduced the rug even further so it was a right bargain.
During the course of the evening Charlie decided to check it out and seemed more than comfortable stretched out on it with his tummy being warmed by the gas fire which has been put on to ensure that he is being kept warm and cosy.
I set about making a chili for tea - it has been very strange for me to be at home for so many days in a row but until we have taken Charlie to the vets on Monday I just want to be with him and make sure that he isn't being stressed and I worry that if he wakes up on his own shut in the house he might just run amok and we MUST keep him calm because of his brain injury.

This is the same Gillian who kindly did a mosaic class for John's Mum and her friend Jackie when they were over. I don't think Janet and Jackie can have seen this work because if they had I could imagine that they too would be somewhat obsessed by what they would be able to produce but it does give me an idea of something for them to try when they come over next!
I fancy having a go myself but will have to see where I can get the inks and blending solution - I bet they are expensive over here.
I have decided that I am going to stay at home with Charlie tomorrow and John will go down to pickleball. I just know I probably wouldn't concentrate properly if I did go - we just want to hear the vet's assessment on Monday before we make a decision about leaving him on his own for any length of time.
Fingers crossed for a decent night's sleep tonight - I am getting quite used to the sofa now!
