To be absolutely honest we have had some pretty shitty weather so far in December. When Wendy and Bill arrived last night we were in the middle of a storm so we were somewhat relieved to see some broken cloud and blue skies this morning and at this time of year we get some pretty dramatic skies.
We had a leisurely morning with a bit of brunch before John and I set off down to Emba to play pickleball leaving Wendy and Bill to their own devices and hire car. They had in mind to wander down to the coast and do a bit of exploring in Polis and hopefully find Paps. Fortunately Polis is not so big that Paps cannot be found!
The dramatic skies continued all the way down to Emba - as we drove along Banana Bay (with some nutter with a death wish overtaking absolutely everything in sight irrespective of whether there was oncoming traffic or not) the sea was wild with spray being whipped up of the top of the waves and across the road. There were loads of people surfing and a couple of nutters looking to go in for a swim - that bit of beach is dangerous at the best of times but on a day like today pretty lethal if you are not strong and confident in the water.
There were just four of us at pickleball - Keith couldn't make it as he had been called into work and it looks like he is going to have to give it a miss over the festive season as he is required elsewhere - this is a shame because he is a good addition and with Jeff gong on his annual cruise it will leave us short. Still Mum, Di, John and I made the best of it and had quite a laugh playing.
As we parked up outside Mum's the temperature was a very respectable 22 degrees and we had heard from Wendy and Bill that the weather was good down in Latchi too. Mum has done a little trimming up for Christmas with her trusty rubber snowmen - they used to play a tune and dance but I fear those days are over for them! We stayed long enough to make a reasonable dent in her newly restocked biscuit box before setting off back home where we had to fit in showers before going out for the evening. Mum will be up with us on Sunday as usual - by then Wendy and Bill will have moved down to their Paphos accommodation.
As we were sitting in the conservatory discussing our respective days we could see that the sun was going down well as the colours were reflected in the clouds over Lysos. Hopefully this will mean the Bailey's get another dry day tomorrow. To be fair they know that December is unlikely to be scorchio but get a good day like they did today and it can be very pleasant indeed.
We took Wendy and Bill for their first ever trip to Fitos this evening along with Rob and Di. I drove as we could get all six of us in The Pug and to be honest I don't have to have a drink to enjoy myself and I was feeling a bit under par anyway. At the moment we have Charlie recovering from his accident and Chivers has a nasty bite at the end of his tail which had turned into an abscess and then burst so is raw and open but hopefully now that we have found it and can treat it will heal rather than get worse. Boris is also a cause for concern. Something clearly happened to him the other night in the pouring rain when we though he might have fallen into a pool somewhere. He has really not been himself since - he is very quiet and normally he is rather vocal. He has slept all day in one of the baskets but more huddled up than curled up comfortably and both John and I think that his face looks swollen and he is shaking his ear as if there is a problem with it.
So we had a lovely evening at Fitos which included some local bazouki playing at one point. The food was lovely even if Wendy had a bit of a wait for her vegetarian meal and she and Bill were well impressed by the fact that their meal and drink and tip came to just 16 euros a head.
We returned to Droushia to continue our evening chez nous. Thank goodness for the space heater in the conservatory which enabled us to stay out there rather than for John to light the fire. It was the wee small hours before Mr and Mrs V made their way down the hill. Bill was already in his jim-jams and I was struggling to keep my eyes open - I think I had an inkling that Charlie might get me up at the crack of sparrows.
