Good times with Good friends

Sometimes you need people staying with you to force you to do NOTHING - we don't have to entertain Nicky and Mark - they have lived on the island longer than we have so their weekends staying with us are a chance for them to kick back, relax and unwind after their respective working week.  They are early to bed, early to rise people but if I hear one or other of them getting up I don't have to join them and this time they could make a morning drink in the bedroom so even they didn't need to visit the kitchen!!

The weather started off indifferent and then deteriorated to shitty so our half-hearted plan to wander down to the Hotel for a drink and to show the Kirbys the recent refurbishments scored nul points and we plumped for the stay at home, slob out alternative.

We had breakfast and whilst I was preparing what was to be our main meal of the day John, Nicky and Mark went across the road to investigate some of the empty houses which are apparently coming up for sale soon.  They have been empty all the time we have been living here, in fact we don't ever remember anyone ever being in them although George and Pam can remember when the whole estate used to be rented out as holiday accommodation.  In the interim a builder bought 10 and started to do them up before going bust - and the rest is history so they say but in the interim they have been sadly neglected and left to the ravages of the weather which we know can take its toll.

I had planned a snack lunch and then a proper supper but as we were pretty late finishing breakfast decided that we would have our main meal late afternoon and everyone was in agreement which is probably just as well because shortly after eating we all seemed to have a power dip!!!

We decided to play a new game (for us) - Taboo - this was a boys v girls word guessing game which involves describing a given word without using any of the taboo words on the cards or words which included all or part of the taboo word, without hand gestures and without using sounds like but apparently you can sing should you wish.  Nicky and I were quite clearly on the same wavelength and although we didn't manage to score a perfect 6 during the time allotted came pretty darn close.

At Christmas when we got together John won a 'build your own robot spider' in the present game - it had been supplied by Nicky and John was determined to get it built and show it to her which he did although it was missing a couple of pieces and he had to improvise with the use of some cocktail sticks!  Just to prove it did work John gave them a demonstration.

As I said late afternoon we sat down to Hunters chicken with coleslaw and crispy chunky chips which went down a storm and then all retired to the sofas for a rest and then Nicky and I actually retired to bed for an hour or so to recharge our batteries.  We did get up again in time to have some of the Bakewell tart that Nicky had kindly brought but thereafter we did nothing else save lounge on the sofas before retiring to bed!
