This morning we awaited news of Minnie - we had to ring around 11.30 so had a leisurely breakfast and then I gave them a call but it sounded like it was chaos at the surgery so we had to await a call back from Susannah the vet. In the intervening period I felt sick with worry. Minnie is such a sweet soul but so timid that taking her out of her comfort zone might have a long lasting effect upon her. Something happened to her years ago and she wouldn't come into the house or near us for months - eventually we won back her trust but since then she hasn't had to go anywhere near the vets so this was something so unfamiliar for her. We couldn't understand how she could have sustained such serious injuries in such a short period of time out of the house and our minds were working overtime trying to think what had happened. Eventually Susannah phoned and we were so pleased to learn that Minnie did not, in fact, have any broken bones but she was injured from her eye to her hip on the left side and either she had fallen or something had fallen on her. We agreed that she should stay another night at the vets and they would bring her back to Prodromi tomorrow and we could take Charlie down for a check up when we fetched her - providing she had eaten and poo'd in the meantime.

We arrived realising that neither of us had come with any money and so we couldn't have a cuppa let alone an icecream!! The weather down on the coast was fabulous and the sea looked so beautiful. We walked carefully up to the baths - taking into consideration my Aunt's leaky heart valve which causes her to become breathless and then cough - which is a little disconcerting but she said she was fine and we found a nice place to sit at the baths and gather our thoughts and enjoy a little sunshine.
It is on a day like this I am reminded just how beautiful this corner of the island is and how lucky we are to be living here so that we can sample it any time we like although it generally takes a visitor to push us into going to some of these places!!! As we could not have any form of refreshment due to our oversight we slowly made our way back along the coast.
We stopped at Tsakkas which is one of our favourite spots - the taverna above the beach is now open although there weren't many people there - one or two having a drink and a handful on the beach taking in the rays. John and I will have to take a trip there soon before it gets full of bloody tourists!!!! I was explaining to Aunty Joyce that this was the place where we took our last swim of the season at the end of last year and I remember the sea being so rough but so warm and my reward was to go to the Souli afterwards and have some calamari for my lunch.
We were very kindly treated to our evening meal at Fitos this evening - we had planned to go to Finnikas but couldn't see that we would be able to walk there safely as the road has been dug up and was a complete mess the last time we checked. We don't want to end up having a trip to A&E with someone sporting a broken ankle. Anyway we had a lovely meal - sitting at our favourite table No1 with the sun streaming in through the window - I had expected to find it a bit chilly but was too hot!!! Aunty Joyce made a valiant attempt at her moussaka which was the size of a breeze block and Uncle David made an equally valiant attempt at his pork chop which was the size of a dinosaur bone!!! We had all the usual salad and dips to start and cake afterwards then coffee and a little (or not so little snifter) to finish - well the men did we ladies exercised some restraint. The Miles's could not believe how reasonable it is to eat there as our four meals, bottle of wine, beers and soft drinks with generous tip came to 15 euros per person!!!
After our excellent meal we were treated to a spectacular sunset which we had been anticipating from our viewing point at Table 1. We returned home well fed and in good spirits because at least Minnie was not having to undergo an operation and we had an appointment for Charlie so that someone could confirm whether or not his abscess was healing poor boy.
