The heatwave continues but it is very marginally cooler today (apparently) and rain is actually forecast in some areas at the weekend.
We had pickleball thankfully Marios came in just as we had started playing and opened up all the doors and windows to make it cooler for us. I am always loathe to open the windows in case we forget to close them when we leave. Liselotte and John had only got back from Larnaca airport at 5.00am this morning but she was raring to go and we had some cracking games. Mum amazes me that at 84, and with these weather conditions, she still wants to play but she put in a cracking game today.
We were having one of our regular weekends with Nicky and Mark and they arrived with us at 5.00pm escaping the humidity down in Paphos - in fact this evening was the first for many when we had condensation here in Droushia - typical!!
They got themselves sorted and we then we sat outside catching up on what has been happening with them since we saw them last. They have both been on a diet - the results of which can be clearly seen in the photograph.
We always have a good weekend with them - they really don't need much entertaining and they are happy to just sit and chill. For that reason we had decided that we would eat in this evening - we have booked to have a meze in the village tomorrow night at Finnikas.
I didn't know about the diet beforehand so I was quite glad I had chosen something light for our meal this evening. A chicken 'salad' served tossed through rice noodles with a light dressing - just the right sort of thing to have on an evening like this.
Nicky and Mark are great house guests because they need no entertaining - they live here so we don't have to take them sightseeing but we do like to share any new places we have found with them. Today though, was just about chilling and we managed to do this quite happily in and around the pool and the garden.
As we were going for a meze this evening which always ends up in us over-eating I had decided to do a light lunch today based on a starter I had when I was back in Yeovil. This was my take on the pea pannacotta with crab combo that I had enjoyed so much at the Kings Arms Montacute. I had found a recipe on the internet which was my starting point - my only concern was being able to translate the amount of powdered gelatine I would need to match what the recipe asked for by way of a sheet of gelatine. Instead of making the pannacotta just from the juices of the cooked peas I added some of the pea mixture which was left having pressed it through a sieve - this was to give it extra body and flavour. I had to use crabsticks as I couldn't get fresh crab and garnished with a couple of prawns and more of the pea mixture and I forgot the mango which was a bugger but it was received very well and I was pleased with that.

We had booked meze in Finikas and it did not disappoint. Sat under the watchful eye of Dionisos we enjoyed fabulous dishes but the chips and 'green eggs' were definite winners as far as Nicky and I were concerned. Washed down with a couple of Vasilikons finest whites it was deemed a success.
Lightweights we were home by 9.30 and in bed by 10.00 what a rock n roll lifestyle we four have!
