Catching up...

Hazel was more than happy for us to go to Montacute with Lily after she had returned from work.

Montacute is beautiful with lovely old buildings hewn out of soft butter coloured hamstone.  You can see why it is a location which has been used on many occasions in period dramas and films.

Montacute House is set in acres of beautiful countryside and currently they are grazing the land with sheep and lambs so the doggies had to be kept on their leads.

Roger, who is awaiting a knee replacement operation, opted to remain near the Courtyard Tea Rooms whilst we took the dogs for a walk.

At one point as we were admiring the fabulous bark on the massive Twisted Chestnut Trees we came across two fledgling blue tits who were taking their inaugural flight with Mum or Dad squawking instructions from up above.  They had been so difficult to spot that we hope they did not get trampled on.

My return to Somerset has made me appreciate just how beautiful this county is and how we never really appreciated it when we were living here.  I wonder what our lives would have been like if we had retired in Yeovil?  It was never in the plan so it is just a passing thought.

One cannot be moved by the grandeur of Montacute House and to be amazed by the talent of those who created such a magnificent building without all the modern day know-how.  What craftsmen and women these people truly were.

We finished our walk and met back up with Roger in the Courtyard Coffee Shop where it was just about warm enough to sit outside.  I am so glad that Hazel and Joani hit it off as they are two of my bestest besties in the whole wide world ever and I love them both, and miss them both, dearly.

Having said our goodbyes we returned so that Hazel could do the return trip of her school escort trip.  I had hoped to be able to locate an Allium for her garden but failed miserably even though I went to everywhere I could think of.  It was a shame but she will just have to make do with the solar light feature I got her earlier in my stay.

When we went out this evening it was my treat to Hazel for having me to stay and not be bothered that I came and went as I pleased.  She had chosen ASK and had secured a 25% discount voucher on our food which was a bonus.

We went out early - we were both feeling rather jaded after our hectic weekend!!!  The food was good and whilst we were enjoying our meal out back in Droushia John and eight others were enjoying a meze in Finnikas!
