OMG Haze your time is nearly up...

It is Hazel's last full day with us today and for this she requested some retail therapy so after a hearty breakfast of eggs on crumpets (to set us up for the day) she and I set off down to Paphos and the heat and humidity and boy was it humid today - my linen dress was sticking to me like a damp rag and it is so hard to believe that Hazel and I used to share clothes when you look at her lovely slight figure and my big old lumpy one.  I need to have an extended period of eating nothing but salad because I feel like a right old heifer at the moment.

We started our trip by going down through Peyia and stopping in the Clothing Lounge which was successful as I bought a dress and Hazel bought a skirt and then we headed for a bit of culture by going to the Old Town and parking in the sunken carpark before taking the lift up to the next level.

I thought Hazel might appreciate the view from the new glass lift but I hadn't taken into consideration that she really doesn't like heights so that was a bit of a silly move!  I had taken the opportunity to get together some jewelry that needed repairing and dropped that off before we went for a wander around - it was really rather hot for doing too much so we headed towards the market where Hazel got herself some lovely coasters for her garden table and then we reverted to our childhood by going into Boo-Tea-Licious for a good old coke float which really hit the spot.

The Old Town refurbishment has not been completed but where it has done it is very pleasant and there are lots of interesting art installations and mosaics and murals to grab your attention.  I learned this morning that far from being random many of them actually tell a story if you follow them in the right order they tell the story of Arodafnousa who was a beautiful woman from Choulou village and who is said to have astonished the French King of Cyprus, Peter I, with her beauty and she became his mistress.  When Queen Eleanora found out, she imprisoned Arodafnousa in her castle in order to execute her.

It is lovely to see Ibrahim's Khan renovated and occupied - it is in the heart of the Old Town and historically was used as an inn and an area where merchants and craftsmen would come together.  It now houses several Artisan units, a restaurant and a theatre.

We completed our little tour and the heat of the Old Town to find comfort in the air conditioned oasis that is the Mall which was successful too - well at least for me in the shoe department!!!

Hazel had requested her final evening meal (for the holiday, not ever) should be at Finikas in the village and she had asked Rob and Di to join her.  After we had finished shopping we shot off to have a cuppa and a swirl with Mum in Emba so that she had the opportunity to catch up with Haze and to say her goodbyes.  We spent a very pleasant hour or so but had to shoot off as we were out early and needed to shower.

I don't know if we have changed much in a year but the picture on the left was taken last year before we went to Finikas (which turned out to be on the night of the full moon and bloomin' freezing by the end of it) and this year's photograph is the one on the right.  Hazel is wearing the lovely dress that she bought from the Arches earlier in the week.  Thankfully the weather this year was much kinder to us and we had a warm and balmy evening rather than a damp and chilly one.

Our meal in Finikas was excellent and Hazel was super impressed by the fish which she was served but less so by the Mastika Liqueur she was given which tasted a bit like toilet cleaner!  The video below was taken before Di and Rob and the food arrived...
