Hazel's holiday continues...

We have had some pretty spectacular weather whilst Hazel has been here - although for the last few days I think the UK may even have been warmer!  We are all feeling the heat and Charlie has found himself a cool spot hugging the solanum and getting the air to his bits!!

Hazel and I were having a girlie lunch down at the Herb Garden in Akourdaleia and we took the scenic route down through Kritou Terra to get there.

We stopped at the little church which is on the outskirts.  It is dedicated to Agia Ekaterini and dates back to the 15th century and used to have seven domes but now has only four.  The murals were damaged by an earthquake in 1953.  It used to be a subsidiary of St Catherine's monastery on Mount Sinai.

We both have people who we wish to remember and those who need all the help they can get at the moment so we decided to stop and leave a contribution so that we could light some candles and say a little prayer for them and hope that him upstairs is listening.

Thankfully it was not so warm at the Herb Garden as the day when I had taken Di for lunch which was a good thing so it was not too bad sitting up under the shade and Hazel and I both chose a salad - me the Brie and Pear and Hazel the Roasted Vegetable and Goats Cheese and they were delicious.

We had a little wander in the little gift shop and had a nice chat with Natalie (the artist) and Dave before we made our way back home for a little snooze and a swim in the pool and Hazel has come to the conclusion that it is very hard work being on holiday.

Her week is racing by.  Tomorrow is the last full day and she has requested a day of retail therapy followed by a meze in Finikas with Di and Rob.  I shall be grateful for the air conditioning in the Mall that is for sure and it is always nice to go home with something new.

We went across to our neighbours for a drink this evening.  It was a beautiful, still and dry evening with a spectacular sunset.

John embarked on a bat hunt trying to see if he could photograph them in the tile where they keep emerging from but he didn't manage to capture them - Hazel tried but everytime she put her phone down they would suddenly fly out - sods law really.

It reminded me of the time we had a bat in the fruit bowl at home.  It had come in through a sky light and was sleeping in the bowl - initially I thought it was a satsuma that had gone rotten but on closer inspection it was clearly alive and John had to pick it up and put it outside.  We had a second one some days later which had come in through the open bathroom windows and was asleep - it was my first day working at Porter Dodson so my career there didn't have a very auspicious start.  We rang the 'bat people' and some nutter of a woman wanted to camp out on our lawn and count them going out and coming back in again.

I finish with a picture of my blingy flip flops which I got from the Mall and which cost me €6.90 and are lovely - John likes them so much he has told me to go and get another pair tomorrow when we are down there.
