The Morning After the Night Before...

When we woke this morning we gathered, by the state of our 'baggy' heads, that we had had a good night, impromptu yes, late yes and most definitely loud so I felt it important to apologise to Lakis, Argy and Kia if we had kept them awake.  Thankfully, or maybe because they are just nice people, they glossed over it saying that it was nice to hear us enjoying ourselves and that I had quite a good singing voice.  That statement truly made me realise they were being kind - because a good singing voice I do not have at the best of times, and after John's lethal cocktails not at all.  Let's just say this is a rare occurrence and because normally we do not have many neighbours we did sort of forget how sound travels at night and when you are on the roof!  Anyway thank you Kyriakides for not making me feel any worse than I already did!

It was probably not a bad thing that I visited the cemetery today for some quiet contemplation and a chat with Dad who would have had some sympathy with my situation.  I can recall two or three stellar occasions when my Dad succumbed to the excesses of alcohol - these occasions were rare but noteworthy.

There was the wine-tasting incident in Austria where afterwards he took himself off for some quiet contemplation to clear his baggy head.  There was the dancing with my god-mother's husband John Pearce at my sisters wedding incident shortly before John Pearce did a commando-style roll down the flight of stairs leading from the function room to the loos and got up unscathed thanks to being suitably 'relaxed' and Mum has a corking story about Dad taking the bus to visit her parents and arriving a tad worse for wear after drinking some whisky (I think - I don't know I wasn't there!!).

Slightly changing the subject I am pleased to report that Dad's grave it all good but for some reason does seem to attract the attention of birds so I gave it a bit of a sloosh down to remove the worst.  It is also a haven for some of the local felines if the little dusty paw marks are anything to go by.  The flowers are still looking lovely.  It was a good choice as they will last the summer and provide colour - the routine of Mum going on a Sunday is working well and I did not need to water today but checked the jug was still full.  Somebody kindly left that jug at Dad's grave when he was first buried and 18 months later it is still there.

It was lovely to be at Art today.  Poor Sheila and Klaus sadly lost a close friend recently and they have his funeral to attend on Wednesday so it is a difficult time for them.

I finished my picture of the poppy seed head.  I am particularly pleased with this - I am not sure why but I think it is the colours so I am hoping to find two matching frames for this picture and the one of the wilting clematis flower I did previously.

I would like to do a third picture to make a 'set' (always better in odd numbers) but I haven't found anything as yet that grabs my attention so will need to spend the next week looking for my inspiration.

Mum has some super flower pictures framed in Emba they are botanical Redoute prints which are similar to the pictures I have done so far so I may take a look when I go down later this week to see if there is anything suitable.

I did not stay for lunch today because as Lakis, Argy and Kia are going to Spilia until the end of the week and then Lakis and Argy are off to Greece for a wedding and will return to the UK thereafter time is limited for us to get together so we had agreed to go for a late lunch at the Winery whilst we have the opportunity.

The Winery serves food until the kitchen closes at 4.00pm - the Winery itself closes at 6.00pm which is a bit of a shame because it used to stay open later and you got the opportunity to watch the sunset from the terrace but it was never that busy and being in Kathikas the evenings can be chilly and damp even in the height of the summer.  We had a very pleasant lazy late lunch together.  We were all a bit tired (I cannot imagine why!!!) so on our return to Lordos 1 went our separate ways to enjoy a nap, or a swim or just some downtime.

Just as a footnote - the other day when John was round at 2b the chair he was sitting on broke.  Argy and Lakis have only had this set one year and for half of it the chairs have been stacked up indoors but as we all know the sun wreaks havoc on plastic and so the reclining adjustment 'bit' cracked.  On closer inspection it transpired that several of them were going the same way.  It had been lucky that it hadn't been Kia about to sit down with a hot cup of tea because otherwise the backrest would have shot horizontal and she could have scalded herself.  There was some debate as to where replacements might be found.  Gold star to Argy who remembered seeing stacks and stacks of sunbeds on the corner of the road in Prodromi and so she went to investigate and managed to get a dozen - the man did not even want to charge her but she gave him some money for a drink for his troubles.  She said they were filthy - nearly as filthy as the man that served her!!!  They are filthy no more as she has cleaned them and John will fit them for her tomorrow.
