Apologies to the Village for my singing...

We woke this morning to a strange noise and realised it was the one day of the year when they come and sort out the grain that has been drying on the road next door and bag it up and take most of it away although they seem to leave quite a bit and one hell of a mess afterwards.  They left a young guy there who worked from about 8.00am or maybe 7.30am until late into the night - on what was a really really hot day.  Mid afternoon John felt so sorry for him and I took a bottle of water round for him.  He was so grateful and offered me a bucket of grain for my trouble.  I declined.

In the evening reinforcements came to take the bagged grain away and we were glad when they did because it had been a pretty noisy day and we were having Di and Rob and Clare and Les round for drinks and nibbles before Clare and Les return to Hong Kong.

Prior to that though Mum came up for lunch.  I had recooked yesterdays potatoes and was serving them with a salad channeling my inner Cypriot woman and adding louvi (black eyed beans) and I had made a sticky sesame chicken dish to go with that and not, as Mum suggested, bought from Paps!!! The cheek of it!!!  It was too noisy and dusty to sit outside and eat so we ate indoors and then Mum, Boo and I retired to the day-bed for some peace and quiet.  It was actually quite nice sitting there until the sun began nipping at my feet so John came and made some changes to the curtains on the gazebo which resolved that.

So we were just going to have a quiet evening with friends - John had made a rather nice cocktail which was made up of vanilla vodka, Baileys and coffee ice cubes and I had heated some cheese pies, sausage rolls and made some other nibbly bits for people to enjoy.  The worst of the engine noise from the grain machinery had gone so we sat outside which was good because it was an incredibly warm and balmy evening which is unusual for Droushia.

It was all going so smoothly until we decided to go up onto the roof terrace and take the music with us and then it all got a bit messy!!!!  I think I will have to go and apologise to the neighbours because I have the feeling we were just everso slightly noisy and let's be honest not one of us can sing!!

It was a late night/early morning but I think we gave Clare and Les a good send-off - certainly a night to remember!
