When I said we had a very late night last night what I should have said is that we actually had a very early morning this morning!!!! Having walked home from a really super BBQ at the Veaseys and having been reprimanded by Charlie for being out for too long, we sat down outside in the garden for a quick coffee before turning in. On the wall was what looked to be a recently emerged Oleander Hawk Moth in all its camouflage glory. Its body was about three inches long and with perfect wings it was an outstanding specimen. We have one oleander in the garden but have never seen the caterpillar on there although we have plenty of the Vine Hawk Moth caterpillars on the vine. He stayed still long enough for me to capture him before we switched off the lights to try and ensure that he would not become a victim of a curious cat.
We had pencilled in a quiet day, well morning at least because this afternoon Mum was going to call in with Angela and Richard after they had taken her to lunch at the Herb Garden in Akourdaleia. We were grateful for the quiet morning because we were feeling a little tired, in fact I struggled to get my eyes to focus for quite a while. Lounging in the pool was the order of the day and it was perfect - the water temperature is just at that point where any warmer and it wouldn't be refreshing any more.
Mum, Angela and Richard arrived mid afternoon having had a lovely lunch at the Herb Garden. Angela and Richard are the reason why Mum and Dad chose to live in Cyprus and thereby John and I. We all lived in Keinton Mandeville when I was younger so we feel we have a special connection. Angela and Richard had an apartment along the Tombs of the Kings Road where Mum and Dad went to stay in the 1980s when the island was a very different place. Dad fell in love with Cyprus and the rest is history - they bought their maisonette in Mediterranean Valley, sold up in the UK and moved out lock, stock and barrel, then sold the maisonette and had their own house built in Emba (which Nicky and Mark now own). Although we have seen Angela and Richard fairly regularly when they are over here I am not sure that they have been to our house since we first moved here in 2011 so they were keen to see the changes we had made and were suitably impressed by what we have managed to achieve. They are nipping back to the UK in a couple of weeks but not for long and so we hope to catch up with them on their return.
