A lovely Saturday...

This weekend was a weekend when we had Nicky and Mark staying with us from Emba.  They are easy guests as they like to go to bed early, and I mean early, and even though they then get up early they will sort themselves out with a cuppa and a shady spot in the garden.  They leave on Sunday morning and then I have an hour or so to get lunch ready before Mum arrives - it is all go but at least this Sunday Mum was kindly bringing up some Coronation Chicken so I only had to prepare something to go with it.

The overnight temperatures and early mornings this weekend have been significantly cooler than of late.  We don't mind as it makes for easier sleeping conditions.  However the overnight condensation was so heavy that we had to have breakfast in the conservatory on both Saturday and Sunday.  This week, horror of horrors, Paps did not have any crumpets so I plumped for the breakfast muffins instead as they were on offer and, as it happens, it was a good choice - I would certainly get them again.  Nicky needed one to balance the contents of the jar of Lemon and Gin preserve she was wanting to consume!

We actually did nothing this weekend and I mean nothing - I didn't venture outside the garden, the others did but only to go and checkout the layout and dimensions of the empty house opposite us.  Nicky and Mark are interested in the possibility of a move out of Paphos and away from the humidity.  We thought they might have found this weekend a bit chilly but they were grateful for the fresh air and Saturday evening it was evident that we had all caught the sun as we had spent the day hanging around the pool.

We were having a barbeque on Saturday afternoon, Nicky had made burgers and I had sausages and koftas and some halloumi and sweetcorn to go on the grill and I wanted to make traditional roast potatoes like Argy does - she had given me all the instructions and I must have given her my full attention because I managed to produce some pretty fantastic spuds (cooked in oil with lemon, onion and the vital ingredient of Bay Leaves).  Thank you Argy because I have tried and tried previously to get my potatoes like this and failed miserably.

The barbeque was a great success - we had far too much food as always but it was delicious and we were all stuffed.  As a result after we had cleared everything away we were all too knackered to do anything more than laze around and watch a film before going to bed.  Nicky chose The Hustle with Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson which we all enjoyed because it was light hearted and didn't need any brain power.

As I said the Kirby's left mid-morning and then Mum arrived to have lunch with us as she normally does on a Sunday.  So impressed with my spuds from yesterday I managed to repeat the exercise with even better result the second time round - I guess it depends on the potatoes you are using.

Mum and I spent a couple of hours sitting out under the gazebo whilst John was catching up on the cricket.  He had the first SUFC home match as newly promoted Premiership members this afternoon so he was really looking forward to that and as it happens the Mighty Blades got a win and apparently it was thoroughly deserved.

Mum and I were joined by Mr Boo who flaked out on the steamer with me - lovely as that was he was too bloomin' hot to have there for any length of time.

Whilst sitting there we heard the unmistakable sound of fire engines and the fire helicopters - it sounded like the fire was close by - we learned it was out of control near Lara - some idiots I am guessing - possibly hunters as the season recommenced today - let's hope it gets sorted quickly and without too much destruction.
