A quiet few days...

We are having a quiet couple of days at the end of our Summer Break before our routine returns to some sort of normality next week.  Mum will be pleased because it means her week is punctuated by pickleball and the charity shop which leaves Mondays and Wednesdays free for her to do something else.

We have now created the cats' new grass restaurant which we hope they will frequent rather than chomping on the ornamental grass which is sharp and scratchy and which they get stuck in their throats.

I introduced it to Boris this morning but so far it has not been an enormous success as the cats have given it a stiff ignoring but time will tell.  It looks ok in the pot, it has a blueish hue to it so it doesn't look like we are just growing a weed.

The garden is in need of a tidy.  Although it is still super hot the plants are moving into their Autumnal mode so some of the shrubs are beginning to lose their leaves and the bougainvillea is shedding its papery flowers so having spent so much time earlier in the year doing a Bobster and cleaning the shingle I need to keep on top of it otherwise it will look messy again.

I have planted up the plants we bought yesterday.  I cleared the back of the decking in Wendy and Bill corner of the Morning Glory and have planted the Ice Plant (Aptenia Cordifolia) there as it will spread and needs very little care.  In the border in front of Wendy and Bill corner I have planted the Mesembryanthemum like we have on Dad's grave - we chose the vibrant pink coloured ones with the sunny yellow centres - again we hope these will spread and then we will have some colour in that border in the summer.

I have still got nowhere with Fu*ky Pigeon - the response from the customer services team was laughable so I have given up and resorted to using Bunches who do not normally let me down but it means that my sister will get a gift of a plant rather than the funky unicorn socks that I had chosen for her - on reflection she may feel relieved about that.

Having finally got her gift sorted out I tackled cleaning my tiled floors - all of them!  this would have been quite therapeutic if it were not so bloomin' warm - particularly in the conservatory and having left the doors open for a bit of a 'through draught' sat and watched guff and fluff making their way in which is really annoying - then I turned round and found Miss Minnie tiptoe-ing her way to the bedroom leaving a trail of paw prints behind her - makes me wonder why I bothered!!

It looks like we may have to panel the spare bedroom before Michelle comes which is in two weeks' time - we have found an area where the plaster has parted company with the wall.  John wants to treat it and deal with it sooner rather than later.  Having had a look at the position of the problem I wonder if it is being caused by me when I water the trough on the opposite side.  I shall have to move it.

I was super chuffed to receive a phone call from Pam today.  George and Pam are seen here with John in Finnikas a few years ago.  Pam had phoned to thank us for looking after Andrew and his family and to give me an update on George who had his operation on Tuesday and is now recovering - he will have an enforced stay in hospital until things start moving naturally - if you get my drift!  We have fingers crossed that this will be sooner rather than later.  Pam tells me that the medical staff are pleased with how the operation went which is great news.  We certainly hope that this will mean they will soon be able to start to plan a trip over when George is feeling up to it.  We have missed them - we have missed going round for a drink and Pam pleading with George to turn the TV down and George insisting it was his favourite programme so the sound level remained untouched.  I can never watch  STIN YGEIA MAS without thinking of him!   So Papou Yiorgo - because I know that Pam reads the blog - we are sending you love and kisses and have the red wine ready and waiting for you xxx
