Fabulous Finikas

As the silly Summer season comes to a close only to be replaced by a silly Autumn season (we have visitors on and off right up to mid-November) we have had a few days of down-time which has enabled us to catch up with Di and the Bobster.

The fourth Ashes test starting this week presented Bobby with the opportunity to 'spend' his beer tokens which we gave him for his birthday.  John felt it only fair to accompany him so that if there was any confusion about said tokens John would be there to explain.  The first day of the test coincided with our Ladies Lunch so I organised to pick up Sheila, Di and Judi to drop them off at Fitos and squeezed Bobby and John in so I could drop them off at the gin bar.  Thank goodness for the sixth seat in the Pug because it meant we could all go in one car.

We sat outside in Fitos under the canopy - the weather was strange - in fact it felt like it was going to rain at one point and it got quite chilly.  It did not stop us having a nice lunch - there were about 14 of us and although we had not pre-ordered the food came pretty much all together.  We were well looked after by Fitos's elder son who has grown into a handsome and personable young man.  Today he was sporting a really sharp haircut and he has slimmed down and grown taller - he is going to break some hearts in the not too distant future.

I dropped the girlies home and then a little later went back to pick up the boys who had had a lovely few hours and were lucky because they got to see some cricket because after lunch it rained at Old Trafford and there was no play for quite some time.  Bobby certainly enjoyed himself and his break from painting the house and enjoyed a well deserved snooze on his return.

John and I went to feed the horse on our return - she is close by so we walked.  I had sorted the fridge having received contributions recently from various neighbours.  She clearly enjoyed the apples and cucumbers we had today as she can be seen licking her lips!!!  She seems to be in reasonable condition and we are happy that is it cooler for her now and as she is not so far away it is easier for us to ensure that she has water.

Our second opportunity to catch up with Di and Rob was last night when we went for a meal at Finnikas.  We had decided not to go for a full meze in favour of something 'lighter' (chicken, chips and salad) but we should have known that we were on a hiding to nothing on that score!!

We sat at our favourite table underneath Dionysos and underneath the watchful eye of one of the resident cats.  We were thrilled to see Philippos looking so well after his recent heart surgery.  We were also delighted that by the end of the evening there were four other tables occupied by diners.

Andri very kindly brought us a starter to try - this was freshly baked and still warm zucchini pie which is not something I would have expected John to eat as he is not a lover of marrow, courgette or squashes but it was amazing so much so that we all agreed it should be a regular feature on the standard meze - when zucchini are in season.

We had our chicken and chips but also had salad and dips and courgette and eggs!  The fabulous meal was accompanied by some nicely chilled Vasillikon white and rounded off by some melon.  Just before we had arrived the skies were heavy and we thought it was going to rain but it didn't and the temperature in Finnikas's Garden was beautiful.
