Recce...

We have been forecast to have a heatwave over the next couple of days so what else would I be cooking but a curry?  I had picked up a rotisserie chicken from Paps on my way home from Mum's yesterday and I had stripped it and I was using my last bit of Bangladeshi curry mix which came with all sorts of other goodies from Mark and Laura last winter.  John is eating it all ready - he likes a good curry and just occasionally your taste buds crave something a bit different.

We had planned to do nothing today save for a little RnR and it would appear that the England Cricket Team had much the same idea as they were skittled out for a measly 67 runs all out - to be honest I reckon if I had got the call up I could have done better than that.   It was all so depressing that we decided to go out instead of put ourselves through the trauma of watching.

We have more friends coming out to the island in September, Anne, Mick and Gordon the Postman (he was my Nan's postman in Cornwall and used to come out with his wife until she died a couple of years ago and now comes on his own but still with Anne and Mick).  Normally they stay at the same complex in Emba that Jane and John use but I think there have been some changes in ownership of the rental properties so this time they have chosen a villa in Tsada - they will be arriving late and although the instructions seemed pretty clear they wanted us to check it out so that they aren't wandering around the countryside when they are tired and it is dark.  We found the villa but were amazed that the instructions failed to mention the most obvious feature - a bloody great painting of a dog on the outer wall - you cannot fail to miss this!!!  Anyway job done and instructions confirmed for them for September.

On our way back home we called in to the winery as we have run out of white wine which is a bit of a nightmare - I blame the neighbours although to be fair Caroline has only helped me with one!!!  As Andrew had kindly paid for our meal last night we had some money left in 'going out' which we thought would be best invested in a box of Vasilikon so we could raise a toast to them every time we have a glass.  They are returning home on Monday - their two weeks has just flown by but they seem to have had a really good time which is great and even better news is that George is doing really really well and will have a small procedure soon which should see the end to his recent illness.

We stopped at the fruit market in Tsada - it actually has a fantastic array of fresh fruit and veg, a butchery department and all the other things you would expect from a small supermarket.  John could even exchange his Leon crate here for just 9.95!! and what is even more exciting is that it has a Chino machine.  In the winter when we tend to return from Emba using that road rather than going via Coral Bay we intend to use it much more often particularly if we have a hot chicken with us.  Anyway we got some goodies for the horse which she will no doubt enjoy.  Just before we got home we stopped to pick some figs as Andrew said they loved them but they had been searching in the wrong place.  John has his favourites and when armed with his fig picker can reach the but juicy ones which are up high.  We left them outside the house for them - we think they were embracing the tradition of siesta time as the door was open but there was no sign of any movement from within our any sound of talking.

We had a quiet remainder of the day and managed to fit in the final few episodes of the first series of Keeping Faith which we have thoroughly enjoyed.

I disturbed a little tree frog this evening.  I haven't heard her/him in the garden but was pleased that the cats haven't found it as yet - I do love to see them and we used to have so many of them in the garden when we first moved in but over the years the cats have put paid to that.  Anyway this little one was safe and sound in Wendy and Bill Corner.
