Saturday...

I am all out of sorts with the days of the week - today does not 'feel' like it is a Saturday - this is possibly because we don't have the Friday benchmark of pickleball at the moment - just as well really as it is very hot again this weekend.  John has footie this afternoon - the Mighty Blades are taking on the Foxes so there will be a bit of banter between John and our No1 Stalker Bill for sure.

We were off down to Paps to do some shopping and I had cleared out the fridge beforehand so the horse was going to get a bumper breakfast this morning as I had some carrots and cucumber that were past their best.  She now knows the sound of the car and even though she was down under the trees in the shade soon came up to see what John had in store for her.  I don't know what he is going to do when she is moved where we cannot locate her because he has become very attached to her.

We know that the boys do visit her daily because she is moved and her water bucket was in a different position than it was yesterday - we assume it is the boys unless there is someone else, like John, who has taken an interest in her - eitherway she is probably as well looked after as she can be on an island with a generally poor record for animal welfare.  I am no expert but I think she looks pretty good.

We stopped in the village to check the post.  It seems very strange to think that Philippos is in hospital but he seems to be doing well by all accounts and according to Andri is expected home on Monday.  John said that the taverna seemed strange without him although the rest of the family gave us a fabulous time Philippos is such a big character that he was sorely missed.

We carried on down to see the Bobster and Di.  Tomorrow is Bobby's birthday and we wanted to drop off his card and present and any other cards that might have come in the post.  There were none but at least it saved them having to negotiate their way up through the village to check.

Rob, like John, will have his Saturday afternoon mapped out to include football, beer, football, nuts of and a bit of football.  Fortunately for Bobby his beloved Charlton presented him with a win unlike the Mighty Blades who lost 2-1 in a closely contested game.

We drove on down to Polis taking a little detour via John and Susan's house just to cast our eyes over it as they have been away for a while although they are due back next week.  All was good so I just text them to let them know.

We didn't need much in Paps but I got a bit of a bargain because I like to wear a pair of flipflops as my summer slippers and for when I am in the garden - my most recent pair died a death yesterday when the toe post parted company with the sole so they were consigned to the bin.  Today Paps had a load of plastic ones for sale at 99 cents a pair so I got two - actually I really like the ones with the starfish detail on the straps - they look really pretty on.

I had a parcel in the post.  I had ordered some transfers to tart up the table we have out by the day bed.

This had started out in life as a 'pine' side table which had mellowed to that awful orangey yellow that it does so John had sprayed it all black which was lovely but he had turned it over to do the underside too quickly so some of the paint on the top had got stuck to the plastic tablecloth.  What I hadn't appreciated was that these transfers needed a light background in order for you to see them so there was nothing for it but to paint the top of the table with some magnolia egg shell that was knocking about in the shed.

The transfers were absolute buggers to detach from their backing sheet but I managed it eventually and plonked them on the table and then quickly gave it a light spray of clear varnish to protect it.  I think it looks ok and it fits in with the colour scheme of the day bed and its surroundings so that is good.  Actually the front decking area looked so inviting that I decided to spend a little while there checking my eyelids for pinholes whilst John shouted at the TV.

Finished off the curry to a chorus of "ohhhh ohhhh my mouth is on fire" before retiring to bed!!
