It is with some sadness that I encountered a second rodent casualty today - Minnie has gone the same way as Mickey or vice versa. After a gap of several days I checked the trap to find it had been successful. I had visions that this poor little mouse had been waiting for the other one to return and in desperation and hunger had gone out on its own in search of its mate and instead of meeting the mate, met its maker. I wish we could find some humane traps as I hate to kill anything and these mice look so cute and tiny in death. It is John's job to dispatch, unceremoniously lobbed over the wall hopefully far enough away that it will not be returned by one of our cats.
This little fella, on the other hand, led me a merry dance this morning. He first broke cover in the conservatory where the tiled floor makes it difficult for lizards to manoeuvre - I wanted to catch it without it shedding its tail because I hate the way they continue to twitch and wiggle when separated from the body. The lizard managed to make his way from the conservatory into the bathroom where he evaded capture for some time until I managed to get him into a takeaway box unscathed and then let him out in the garden. He remained in the box for a while getting his breath back and then disappeared only to reappear in the conservatory with Chivers in hot pursuit. Once again we managed to save him and once again he left intact. Chivers was most put out and somewhat confused as to where his plaything had gone and I had visions of him returning with a stiff mouse in protest.
We reckon that Persephone must have been out today as Charlie spent the majority of the day in and around the garden. Normally he mooches off up to 1B where the menu is infinitely more varied than we offer but not today, instead he chose to make himself at home on one of the steamers.
He still does not have use of the right hand side of his face (left in this picture) - when he is awake you can't really tell but when he is asleep or tired (as in the right hand picture) only one eye shuts and we keep expecting him to yell out "Arrrrrr Jim Lad" in the manner of Long John Silver!!! His right ear doesn't move either and he does have a tendency to dribble but apart from that he is fine!!!
Mr Boo has also been in all day but he prefers to chill out in our bedroom on his 'blinkie' and he remains there all day. One can only assume that he has a really heavy night on the tiles as he tends to disappear when we go to bed and then reappear first thing in the morning and then sleep for the remainder of the day. All our boys must have been exhausted as they did not follow us over to Lakis's when we went to put some chemicals in the pool and do an update on his Android TV Box either that or they have realised that the Kyriakides are away so there is nothing there to entertain them.
It is the Bobster's birthday on Sunday and we had been trying to think of a little gift for him when John came up with the idea of some vouchers for Real Ale at the Kathikas Gin Bar - we knew that Savvas would probably not have any so I made some up myself and we decided to take them across and have a little drinkie in the square ourselves. It was very amusing listening to John trying to explain the concept of these vouchers to Savvas but eventually we think we got him to understand that John was going to pay for the Ale in advance and then Bobby could just redeem one card as and when he wanted. Erring on the side of caution we thought we should explain what we had done to Rachel just in case Bobby pitches up and is greeted with "the computer says NO!!!". John thinks he should accompany him on these trips to save any embarrassment!!!
We had a beautiful sunset which will herald another lovely day tomorrow. We are now experiencing condensation overnight which means it is somewhat cooler for sleeping thank goodness as the very warm nights keep me awake and then I am rubbish the following day. It was a welcome and unusual quiet night in for the two of us and we were able to catch up on a couple of episodes of Keeping Faith - cannot wait for Sunday when I will reacquaint myself with Mr Thomas Shelby of the Peaky Blinders!!!
