So we were planning a quiet day today having had a latish night last night. I had offered to take in a parcel for Clare which was being delivered by UPS and the guy phoned today arranging to meet - I suggested the Droushia Heights Hotel as the road system in Droushia is still a challenge so John said he would come with me and we went out to jump into Kenny only to realise that we had left him in Kathikas!!!! We collected the parcel and then went off to Kathikas to collect Kenny and then on our way home John stopped off to feed the horse and was mega disappointed that she was no-where to be seen but we need not have worried because she had simply been moved the other side of the road so she still got to have her treat of carrots and cucumber.
I was feeling a little under par this morning - can't think why as I never had enough to drink to make me remotely want to sing a chorus of Temptation but I did dance so maybe that is why!!! The only thing to do when you are feeling like that is to have a big old bacon buttie to soak up any residue alcohol and a nice mug of fresh strong coffee which is what we both did. We then planned to have a nice quiet afternoon lolling around the house.
Ok so that was what we had planned but Tassos, our taxi driver from last night, and a man of many talents, had other ideas!!! John had asked him if he could, when he had a minute, bring his digger and scrape a clear border all around our house boundary - this was primarily to get rid of the massive bramble that had reappeared and was out of control but would also act as a fire break and snake deterrent. Tassos approached the task with such gusto that John had to supervise so that he didn't end up in our garden!!! The noise attracted attention from our neighbours who were bobbing up and down like meerkats about to be attacked. They seem to think that they are excluded when the area to the front of their property is cleared but we are sure that directly in front of them is a plot owned by someone which is why it is not included in any general municipal clearance. We were paying for Tassos to do outside ours although the owner probably is supposed to do it, he lives in Australia so it isn't going to happen any time soon.
While John was sorting out Tassos I spent a bit of time clearing some areas of the garden as they had started to look a bit weary. Next to the outside shower the bulbs we rescued years ago have started to flower and reveal the delicate beauty of a Sea Daffodil - Pancratium Maritimum - the flowers are lovely but short lived and only appear once the foliage has gone yellow and crispy so it isn't the tidiest plant for the garden and if we do something about the outside shower area they will have to be moved anyway. We would like to replace the wooden shower screen with some metal baskets filled with pebbles but it isn't a necessity and we haven't been able to find a source for the baskets although we see them all over the place.
This afternoon we had a visit from Pam and George's son Andrew and his wife Caroline (she did not want to be photographed because apparently, according to Andrew, she always looks drunk in photos!!).
They stayed for a couple of hours and we sat out in the garden having a drink together and catching up. This was after Andrew and Caroline had been for a good old mooch around Villa 10B.
I know our decorating style is not to everyone's taste but it was so lovely to hear Andrew say that when he walked around our home he felt like he was being enveloped by a great big soft and welcoming hug. Sometimes we just need to look what we have with a fresh pair of eyes to appreciate what we have managed to achieve over the years. We still have ideas about things we would like to do or change but even if we drew a line under it all today we would have something to be proud of.
The Kailous are off to the Last Castle tomorrow and then on Thursday evening we are all going out together (with Rob and Di) for a Finnikas Meze and then before we know it they will be gone 😞😞😞 - Lakis and Argy and Kia will follow shortly afterwards and when that happens the estate will seem pretty quiet once again and winter on its way!
