Don't keep secrets...

Ok so the best laid plans as they say...

Today we had arranged to meet up with my cousin Julie.  She is visiting a friend that lives in Argaka. Her dad (90) and my mum (not saying) are brother and sister.  We had kept her brief visit a secret so that when we met Mum for lunch today we could surprise her.

We had arranged to meet Julie and her friends at the Art Cafe in Polis for a cuppa before whisking her off with us for the day but when we arrived in Polis the Art Cafe was shut - it was a bit early but it didn't look like it was going to open.  We had a wander down the square to look at the newly refurbished Finnikas taverna which is looking really nice, light, bright and open so I guess we will be trying this out when John's Mum is here.

We walked back to the Art Cafe but there was no further sign of life but Julie had arrived with her three friends and so we just wandered down to Saddles for a coffee together before we took Julie with us to meet Mum.

We had some shopping to do for John's Mum who arrives with Jackie and Stan tomorrow so we called into Cycleband to get what we wanted and then surprised Mum by calling into her house rather than meeting her at Sea Caves.  We rang the doorbell and hid leaving Julie at the door.  Safe to say Mum was completely flummoxed - in fact she didn't recognise Julie to begin with, not expecting to see her standing there for one minute!!!  We thought we should give her time to catch her breath and get changed so we wandered on to Sea Caves.  What I didn't know is that Mum had organised a surprise for me and had asked Anne, Mick and Gordon to join us.  I though John was a bit quick getting us out of the door - he knew they were about to arrive and pick mum up!!

We took a bit of a scenic drive to Sea Caves showing Julie the coastline at Oniros and the bar and the wreck but she was more impressed by the bananas that had been crammed into the truck in front of us!!  Not sure they could have got any more in there if they tried.

We got to the Sea Caves restuarant which is a bit further along the coast than Oniros and got a table right at the front and we hadn't been sat down five minutes when Mum arrived with her surprise.

Gordon used to be my Gran in Cornwall's postman and he used to come out to Cyprus on numerous occasions on holiday with his wife together with Anne and Mick.  Sadly his wife died but happily he continues to come with Anne and Mick.

Their's was the villa that we had to locate in Tsada which had the mural of a dog on the wall.  They are very pleased with the villa which is a bit of a change from the place they have stayed in Emba the last couple of times.

There is a lovely view here at Sea Caves and Mum and I were reminiscing about the time she paid for me to have a massage here - a guy called Eric used to have a massage bed surrounded by curtains just beside the restuarant down close to the waters edge and you could have a massage whilst listening to the waves coming in and out.  Sadly Eric has gone along with the bed and the curtains but the wooden structure which housed them all is still there as a reminder.

We had a nice lunch but sitting under the sails Julie and I started to get a bit hot - the occupational hazard of being women of a certain age I guess and as we had yet to take her to Droushia and show her our house we waited till everyone had finished before bidding farewell.  We shall see the others next Sunday when we will go somewhere with John's Mum and Jackie and Stan for lunch.

Julie didn't care what the temperature was in the pool she got straight in no messing!!!  We spent some time in the pool and some time up on the roof terrace taking in the last of the sunshine.  It was considerably more cloudy yesterday than it has been of late.  Julie loved our house.  She said it was very 'her' and she is right because I love her little house in Keinton and I really love her garden - in fact I managed to bring back a penstemon she had grown when I was there last year.  It is still alive although it hasn't really done very much!!

I had to return Julie to Sa Bunari this evening because she and her friends were meeting Doug and Daphne who live nearby.  It transpires that I know Doug because we met with Nikos was trying to set up an Anglo Cypriot theatre group in Droushia.  We took another scenic route as we went through Kritou Tera and then as we arrived a little earlier than anticipated went down to look at the reservoir above which Sa Bunari sits.

It had been so lovely to see Julie.  We are grabbing a quick drink together on Tuesday night when she and her friends are sampling the delights of a Yiannis Cypriot Evening in Kathikas!  She returns home on Wednesday.  I will definitely make the time to see her when I go back in January for Hazel's birthday.  I can't make any plans though until I know how Hazel plans to celebrate!
