So this morning John dropped me off to pick up Kenny who had been sitting patiently in the car park of the Droushia Heights Hotel waiting to be claimed. He was there and he was fine and I drove him to Sheila's for my morning of art - he may have had the hump at being abandoned but he started first time and took me where I needed to go!!!
I love my Mondays with Sheila and Klaus - I love this artistic discipline that Sheila has enabled me to embrace - who knew that colouring could be such fun!!!! I manage to amaze myself sometimes with what I have produced. This morning I worked for a couple of hours on the centre of the house leek and went cross eyed into the bargain. Working close up makes it difficult to really appreciate what you have achieved so there was an awful lot of huffing and puffing on my part as I struggled with that area of the picture. I kept saying to Sheila that I couldn't seem to get the three dimensional effect I was trying to achieve except that when I packed up and took my progress photo for this week I could see that I hadn't done too bad a job on that score!!
Can I just say to anyone reading who says "I am not artistic" don't underestimate how therapeutic a couple of hours of art or craft can be. I didn't do art at school and I too never considered myself artistic until I decided to sign up for a watercolour and drawing class many years ago held at Stanchester School. It was a revelation to me and unleashed my arty-crafty inner self for which I am eternally grateful. I don't rate by ability - a decent finished picture is always something of a surprise to me - a happy accident if you like! I know I thank Sheila every week but it was such a great day when she invited me to her house to see her pictures - it was the start of a great friendship and my journey with pastel pencils!!
Once back at home I was a bit confused as to where John was because everything was open but he was conspicuous by his absence and that was because he had nipped over the field to go and see the horse who is currently next door. Bless her she calls for him during the day if she is conscious that he is nearby.
I have to say it is a bit noisy at the moment because there is a lot of work going on at Friends Reunited across the road which is where there have been plans for an retirement village backed by Dr Hillary Jones. We think the waste material dug up because of the road cobbling project has been dumped there and they are dealing with it.
John returned and we set about waterproofing any other external surfaces that we have as yet treated. This stuff is mustard. Nanopro-C is what John has been using and you can see what happens when water comes into contact with a surface that we have sprayed - it forms globules like mercury - it is great to see something that does exactly what it says on the tin and it provides us with much comfort that we are doing the very best we can to make our home as waterproof as possible. Every year we seem to manage to make positive changes to improve the fabric of our home.
It was to be a very important evening in terms of the footballing calendar. This evening the Monday Night Match was Sheffield United versus Arsenal. John's one true passion is his devotion to the Mighty Blades and so it went without saying that we would be sitting down to endure the pleasure and pain that comes with being a Blades Supporter.
The guy that provides our TV system is an Arsenal supporter so there was a bit of banter going on in that direction and John got himself settled along with Chivvy-Pops who was like a coiled spring ready to leap up and celebrate should the opportunity arise.
Well bugger me the opportunity did arise - Sheffield United managed to take the lead in the first half and hang on to it - this was a fabulous victory but we are now worried that Kirky might cut us off from having access to the TV system!!!
It was a late finish as the game didn't start until 10.00pm our time so it was gone midnight before we got the chance to go to bed but it was worth it - John is a happy and Chivers is glad he only had to leap up and celebrate once!!
