Saying Goodbye...

We love to take a stroll down into the village to check the post - or at least we did before they started digging the roads up and turning it into an assault course!!  We like the excitement of investigating the contents of 'the box' and having a chat with Marina or Philippos or whichever member of the family happens to be in there.

Some years ago we were offered a PO Box by Philippos.  He proudly revealed the new block of 25 green postal homes and told us we could have number 10.  We politely thanked him but explained we liked the routine of coming into Cafe Vrisi and looking for ourselves - the 'ambient' lighting is a challenge in itself!!!

He was somewhat non-plussed that we had turned down this marvellous opportunity and looking at the current access to said boxes I am guessing that we along with everyone else had declined - there is now a rather viciously thorned rose to negotiate particularly if you were allocated boxes 17 and 22!!!

There was one little package for me today but nothing for anyone else that we normally look for so no requirement to do our Postman Pat duties.

We were heading off to Latchi today so that we could go and say goodbye to Louisa who has been working at the Family Resort this summer and as the resort closes for the season this weekend she is taking some time out to spend with her family before deciding upon what she is going to do next.

We had arranged to meet her at 12.00 at the resort but arrived at Latchi early (no surprise there!!) and so sat at La Plage taking in the autumnal sunshine and watching the tourists enjoying the beach and the sea.

We picked Louisa up and headed for the Souli.  She had not been there before even though it is only just down the road!  Louisa is a pescatarian and as we consider the calamari here to be some of the best we had lured her with a promise of a nice lunch and a great view.  She got both and loved it.  In fact she has enjoyed her time on the island much more than she had anticipated.  She looks healthy and relaxed and we had a lovely hour or so with her - she is a great girl with a great sense of humour and we hope we will keep in touch particularly if she does decided to work in Limassol.

We returned Louisa to the Family Resort so that she could pack up her things and head off to Limassol with the lift that she had organised.  We made her laugh when we told her she had to give 'three rings' to let us know she had arrived safely - this is clearly a generational thing which we would have done as kids to let our parents know we had got to our destination but so we didn't have to pay for the call - which got me to thinking does anyone actually do reverse charge calls anymore???  Blimey times have changed!!!  Anyway the Family Resort is no nigh-on empty but we were pleased to hear that it would be reopening again next season.  It is a great addition to Latchi and it stood empty for far too long previously.

So we are fast approaching the end of October but today was scorchio particularly down on the coast and when we got back in the car to head for Paps the temperature gauge was showing 30 degrees - apparently there is some wet weather coming at the end of the week so we were making the most of the sun.

In Papantonios I could not believe my eyes when I walked in to be confronted by a display of Christmas decorations.  In fact all around the store there was a nod to the festive season which is just 8 weeks away which is scarey!!!

I had planned to get my Christmas Cards written and to ask Wendy if she would take them back and post them as John's mum had kindly left me a book of stamps.  I shall have to pull my finger out because Wendy and Bill are flying over today for two weeks and before we know it they will be flying back and I still wont have done the cards even though I made them all way back in January.

It was to be a quiet afternoon/evening back at ours.  Wendy and Bill are popping over to say Hi and then they are coming back next weekend to stay for a couple of nights.  We are going to have a curry evening with Di and the Bobster on Friday night and then Wendy and Bill, John and I are going to see Chris Andre playing at the Farmyard.  In the interim Wendy and Bill are flying off to Israel for three nights!!
