Christmas Shopping...

Heyho - it never rains but it pours - we have a fairly terminal issue with our pool pump so we were going down to Paphos today to investigate the cost of a replacement and along with that the cost of a new electric control panel.  This is going to be expensive but the ones which are in the pump house are probably 20 years old.

We were up early and off down to Paphos just after 9.00am - we could have gone earlier but we had arranged to meet up with Stacey to look at the dishwasher she has for sale and which Mum wants.  The dishwasher trip was successful - we shall be moving it to Mums on Friday.

Next stop was to see Mani at ShipShape who recognised John from his trips up to Droushia to sort out Lakis's pool - we agreed a price on a new pump, control panel and fitting and we didn't have time to change our minds as they will be up tomorrow morning early to fit it.  This is good.

Our next stop was to the Mall.  I wanted to pick up a couple of things from Jumbos and then we were going to have an early lunch.  Jumbos has now transformed itself into the biggest Christmas shop you have ever seen.  There are decorations of every shape, size and colour imaginable!!!  It is so hard to imagine that when Mum and Dad came over nothing remotely connected to Christmas appeared in the shops until about mid December!!!

We had a good wander around - nothing on my list was for Christmas which is only about 6 weeks away, instead I needed more practical things like storage boxes and I was looking for an LED battery light for Mum to do her pictures - we had seen them previously but today they were no where to be seen unfortunately.

I am planning on 'upcycling' my rocking chair which is in the garden.  It is lovely BUT not the right colour for where we have it located.  John and I are going to strip off the blue paint which the previous owner used and I am going to try and recover the cushions and reshape the back cushion so it is more comfortable.  I wanted to try and find a sort of 'vintage' pink fabric - I have been looking in the charity shops but good old Jumbos has a bed throw which is not far from what I have been looking for and has a lovely quilted finish so I am hoping that one of these will be big enough.  I have taken the measurements and will go back and measure up the cushions and hopefully come back.

We must have been early or Jumbos was not that popular today because we sailed through the shop and through the check out and then wandered off to the food court to try and decide what to have for lunch.  We decided to share a Chinese meal - all €8.10 for chicken Teriaki and egg fried rice which was enormous and was delicious.  Eating Chinese in the Mall always makes me think of Dad.  Before Kings Mall was opened we would go to My Mall in Limassol and there used to be a Chinese just on the right as you went in and Dad and I would always share a meal between us.  Dad loved a bit of Chinese given half the chance.  In fact he could remember going to a Chinese in Yeovil and getting lunch for 50p and then some years later I worked with Tsui in Salisbury and it transpired that it was her father that ran that Chinese restaurant.

We returned home and called into the post office.  We had a parcel which was our new TV box as our previous one had died a death a couple of weeks ago.  Its set up was earmarked to be John's project on our return home.  There was also a parcel for Di and Rob but John wasn't sure what to do with it as we knew they were not in, they too were enjoying the delights of Jumbo as were Wendy and Bill so he decided to leave it in situ as it needed a signature and we didn't think it would go in their postbox and weren't sure the best place to leave it so that it would be safe and sound so decided to leave it at the Post Office.

I spent a couple of hours in the garden on my return.  The weather has been so beautiful but this has meant that plants which would normally be going into Winter mode are just going wild in the aisles.  There is rain forecast for the end of the week so we need to grab our chances outside when we can.  The Polygala (Polygala is an old Greek name from the words polys meaning much and gala meaning milk, the name given to this genus for some of its members which have the reputation for promoting the secretion of milk. The species name myrtifolia means myrtle-like leaves) got a severe pruning but in so doing it has made me realise that both my pairs of secateurs are absolutely pants and I ended up with blisters because what should take one cut takes three or four!  I have made a start as have the weeds so it is going to be a race to see who is more successful.
