Bloody Amazon

We had a quick trip down to Polis this morning which was very pleasant as the sun was shining.  John parked up outside the Bank of Cyprus because he needed to nip across to the woodburning shop.  Now that is what I call a poinsettia!!! the size of a tree and in full 'bloom' - it must have been protected from the ravages of the recent wind and hail.

On our return home we decided to go up through the village and then to the cemetery - John was going to check the post which wouldn't have been such a messy exercise as we had anticipated as there has been some loose 'stuff' spread over the top of the mud.

At the cemetery all was fine - Dad's flower trough may need to be replanted but we will leave this until the Spring as apparently we have some more cold weather, including snow forecast for the end of the week.  The succulents that were in there might put in a reappearance but as they were only 50 cents each it isn't the end of the world to have a bit of a change.

I had a phone call when I was down in Polis from UPS to say that they had a parcel for me and I asked if he could leave it at the Hotel for me.  I had ordered a new microwave as I have never been completely happy with the one I got from Paphos and soon with Brexit it is going to be a lot more expensive to get these sorts of goods over from Amazon.  It was expensive enough as it was but I felt the 70-odd quid charged for the delivery was worth it to get a machine more like I wanted.  I couldn't believe it when I saw the box was damaged and notified Amazon straight away and then when I opened it up the door to the microwave was bent and had dropped - I am guessing the box probably fell and went on a roll.  I then had a battle for an hour or so to get Amazon to refund me the money.  They wanted me to return it first before issuing a refund or a replacement but we would have to pay for the return first and then get the money back and using the service that they wanted us to use it was going to cost over £220 to send it back which was more than the item was worth.  Eventually, through dogged determination I got them to agree to reimburse the whole cost - initially their first offer was 40% refund and keep the item but when I pointed out it was unusable they did agree to a full refund and no return.   Common sense prefailed in the end thank goodness.

This evening we were going out with Di and Rob as a bit of a bye bye before I go to the UK.  The Gin Bar was holding a gin and curry evening with entertainment by Davey Woodford.  Firstly I must thank Di for being Taxi Driver tonight.

It was a bit difficult to decide what to wear - we haven't been to the Bar in the Winter for one of these nights and you can never tell how warm somewhere it going to be - let's just say we needn't have worried because it was super toasty warm and it wasn't long before I began to regret the layers I had put on

We had a fab night - I have to say I really enjoyed Davey Woodford and the food was fabulous, those boys from The Farmyard certainly know how to do a curry and tonight the food was laid out buffet style in an adjoining room so you could have as much or as little as you wanted and there was plenty - two sorts of rice, a vegetarian curry and then four meat curries including the fabulous Thai Green which I love.

We always have a good evening with Di and Rob and the Gin Bar is going to repeat this evening in February so that might be another Drouseian night out!!!  I will leave you to decide whether or not we seemed to enjoy ourselves - not sure the table next to us were overly impressed by our singing so it was a good job we knew them!!!
