Friday 31st January

A dry and bright start to the day.  Definitely one for doing washing but as we were off to Emba and wouldn't be home till late then I couldn't risk leaving it out as it would have ended up being more damp than when I had put it out!

We have been sorting drawers and cupboards so we had a load of stuff for Mum's charity shop What's New Pussycat and John had to go to DHL to collect either his new or his old passport which seems strange that on the day the UK leaves the EU he might be picking up a brand spanking new passport when we don't know whether travel arrangements are going to change for us in the future.    Anyway this is quite a momentous day and now that it has finally arrived we are just glad that we know now one way or the other what is happening even if it is not what we had hoped for.  We have all our paperwork in order so currently have no worries about our being able to stay and we cannot envisage any major day to day changes.  We are dependent upon exchange rates but we have always been so time will tell how that pans out but in the meantime we will carry on regardless.

So we packed up the car with our pickleball gear, goodies for the charity shop and passports for Bassam and a bone and chews for Little Dog.

Why passports for Bassam?  Well, back last May I helped Amoura book tickets for the family to go for a long weekend to London in March which is fast approaching.  Then we realised that all correspondence regarding the booking along with the booking reference had been going to an old email address for Orexi and no-one could remember the login details.  I tried to get a booking reference from Bassam's bank statement but could see the transaction but no reference and then I tried the on-line chat service but got absolutely no-where.  With time running out I began to panic because I needed to have Amoura by my side when we spoke to customer services and she is blooming hard to track down!!  In the end we managed to get together yesterday and we rang customer services and it wouldn't have been easier - it was all sorted out in about 30 seconds flat!!!  If I had known just how easy it was going to be I wouldn't have lost sleep over it.  I have now managed to go online and confirm their details and I can check them in and print out the boarding cards next week - there might be a slight issue in that Rabia's passport is about to run out but they don't seem worried about that.

The bone and chews for Little Dog is because she is now a mum to two absolutely adorable puppies - super cute fluffy bundles but totally unapproachable because I am guessing no-one has tried to handle them.  We really feel for Little Dog as she was dumped and races after every car because she thinks it belongs to her owners.  She unfortunately got pregnant when a scruffy old Alsation was hanging around and then disappeared and I feared the worst for her but she has reappeared complete with the pups.  She is the only dog we have ever met that we have considered giving a home and if it weren't for the cats we would probably have done so.  John goes to see her every day with something for Litle Dog to eat and she gathers whatever it is up and takes it to the pups first so that they get something to eat - bless her!

Sadly no Di at pickleball, she is nursing a dodgy back.  We played with the new Pickleball Association approved yellow indoor balls which proved to be quite a challenge.  Afterwards Mum had asked us to help with swapping out her internet router so we went off to pick up what turned out to be John's old passport and then the new router which had been pre-loaded with all the details so it was almost a straight swap save for the fact that initially Mum's home phone stopped working but that was quickly resolved.

We enjoyed a beautiful sunset on our way home - we went via Kathikas to drop off the Mermaid Gin to one super-happy Savvas.  Supper was chilli accompanied by a glass of red wine and some really great TV courtesy of Deadwater Fell - you gotta love a Friday!!
