Wednesday 5th February

The weather has really deteriorated - today was grim - grey, wet and windy, in fact as the day progressed the wind got stronger and up here in Droushia overnight it sounded and felt like it was gale force.  The day did not start well with an early morning cat fight raging outside the bedroom window and John and I getting up to rescue Chivers and Boris from the Clutches of some big old tom-cat which probably is un-neutered and comes from the stray colony up the road which Sharon feeds.  To begin with it sounded like babies crying and then we got the unmistakable growling of very pissed off cats.  Chivers came in almost immediately when we shouted - he isn't really a fighter bless him but Boris insisted on standing his ground and because he is prone to getting nasty abscesses we really wanted to get him in out of  harm's way.

We managed to catch up with Di and Rob this morning and we managed to pay our water bill which was a result!   We have been concerned that Fitos has not reopened after its normal winter closure which is generally only for a few days, although was a couple of weeks one year when they had a leak - Rob is in the mood for a pork chop - so I text Joanna and am pleased to report that it was reopening today, phew that is good news and means we will have a trip there soon.

Faced with a grim old day up in Droushia we decided that we would go down to Paphos and run some errands and hopefully find a bit of warmer weather.  As we were passing through Stroumbi we had a big old helicopter fly overhead - there has been a lot of aerial activity over the last few weeks - it hasn't been unusual to see Chinooks flying over - there were two circling round at the airport when I flew the other week.  John reckons this one is Russian - there is probably some sort of military exercise going on - at least these are quieter than the Israeli jets we get each year which scare the living daylights out of me.

We faced carnage when we got home - we realised immediately when we got into the conservatory and were greeted by a sea of feathers that some poor bird had met its maker somewhere - we followed the trail and found more feathers in the lounge and Charlie going mad to get under the chest of drawers.  Our cats are not interested in getting the mouse/carob rat that may still be in and around the house - oh no they had to go and murder a beautiful little bird which turned out to be a European Stonechat which we think may have been the little bird that has been nesting in the orange plant which climbs up onto Bramall Lane - we have seen something flitting in and out and always thought it was in danger from the cats.  We don't know who the culprit is - tends to be Chivers or Charlie but we cannot be sure.
