6th, 7th, 8th February

The last three days have been a bit of a blur really because I have been proper poorly and I mean proper poorly.  Hopefully nothing worse than a head cold but with all this Coronavirus paranoia that there is at the moment you cannot be too careful.  I do not think that I have been in touch with anyone or anything from China or the Far East save for a couple of email exchanges with Clare in Hong Kong but I have just returned to the island on a flight from the UK and you can never be to sure what is lurking around on the aircraft.

It started as a sore throat and that always means it will progress to something worse.  For this I have my Mum to thank (a) because she has the same problem and I clearly inherited that weakness and (b) she might have kindly shared this bug with me because the other Sunday when I asked her how she was she said she nearly didn't come because she had had a poorly throat but had dosed herself up and had thought she was better and then a couple of days later she was poorly.  I do think that sometimes dosing yourself up merely stifles the inevitable.   I have regrettably for the first time in 9 years had to tell Mum not to come up tomorrow for fear that I will pass this back to her which I really don't want to do.  I know she will understand and I will make it up to her particularly as this has not been the best week for her as it started with her having an injection in her finger which was painful, then being under the weather herself and the blooming horrible weather we have experienced - this week has been the worst so far this winter and I will be glad when Spring arrives.  Temperatures have plummeted and although I don't feel the cold as I am currently burning up our bedroom was a very chilly 9 degrees this morning.

I have been kept company by a succession of cats save for Boris how has stuck by me like a limpet and we think we have found 'stone chat gate' culprit and he seems to be suffering a little and hasn't wanted to eat - I don't wish him ill but serves him right if he was the bird murderer.

John is being so lovely as my carer although I am still waiting for the cup of coffee I asked him for about 6 hours ago.  He went off to do some shopping as we have been on little more than starvation rations for the past 24 hours or so because the cupboards were bare and forgot his wallet - he was very kindly saved by our lovely friend Philippos from Finnikas who lent him some money so that we could eat.  John was mortified so the first thing he did on his return was find his wallet and go and return the money hence he forgot about my coffee.

I had been looking forward to a nice week and it had started so well because when we were down in Paphos the other day I had managed to grab myself a right bargain.  In the sale at the end of the Summer I had bought a pair of blue loafers which are quite the most comfortable shoes I have had in a long time and as they have a thick sole are not completely flat, more a gentle wedge shape so could, with some thick tights look quite nice with a skirt or dress.  I had thought them cheap enough at €9.90 but today at Chrysanthou they had a whole load of shoes marked down to €4.90 and the Taupe version of the blue loafers was amongst them and in my size!!!!  Reminds me of when Laura came one spring on her own and we both got a pair of shoes in Chrysanthou sale for €2.90!!

I did this week before succumbing to Lurgy manage to give the picture that I did to its owner - it was for Melanie (of Simon, Melanie and the girls) and this also gave me the opportunity to see their home in Tala - the last time I saw it, it was nothing more than a shell and it transpires that they have been living here now for at least three years!!!  It is a magnificent house but which, for all its size and grandeur, is most definitely a family home.  Jasmine and Frances will not currently appreciate how lucky they are but I am sure they will in the future because not only do they have this beautiful place to call home but also the one house in Droushia that we always fancied buying!!!  Sadly we did not get rewarded with one of the fabulous sunsets that they witness most days but even what I saw looking out of the kitchen window was good enough for me...
