Dipity Doo Dah...

Today we were having a trip down to Paphos to meet up with John's cousin's partner Dip who is over for a couple of weeks to ensure that their property in Universal is all good for the forthcoming season.

We had suggested trying somewhere new in the Old Town which had been recommended to us by Stacey before she returned to the UK.  The place is called Casa Mespilea and it is a beautifully renovated old colonial building just off the main road directly opposite the big Cafe Nero.

It is a fabulous building tucked away in a side street.

There is a little bistro area inside and outside a secluded garden.

It is a bit too early in the season for the garden to be looking its best but you could see what a haven it would be soon.

Fortunately today was a glorious day and so we were able to sit outside to have a drink and something to eat.  We don't know if there were any people staying but we were the only people sat out in the garden.

We are not sure whether the lady we were speaking to was the owner or the chef or both but she was Spanish and whether normally lunchtime there is a menu but today she just came and told us what she had available.

This was fine but the problem with that is that you don't actually know how much anything is going to cost!!

We were supposed to be joined by Dip but he had text earlier to say that he was feeling a bit under the weather so didn't feel up to having lunch - we didn't mind as we planned to go anyway.

As an appetiser we were brought hot fluffy pitta bread and two dips, one which was like tsatsiki but much crunchier and the other which was an orange flavoured tahini which was absolutely out of this world and is something we will be trying to recreate and soon.

We then had a yoghurt and lemon grass infused salad and John had ordered Moroccan kebabs with wild rice and I had something which I now know is called Shakshuka which was baked eggs with peppers.  Both were delicious and certainly something different to the norm.   We sent Dip photographs to show him what he was missing and he then decided to come and join us for a coffee so we were happy to wait until he made it.

Dip loved the place, he is always keen to try and find new places which are off the beaten track and so next week we have arranged to meet again and will try and take him somewhere new.  We enjoyed our food - although John has not got over the cost of a small bottle of Coke which was rather pricey to say the least, the coffees on the other hand were reasonably priced.  It is certainly somewhere I would try again - only trouble is we don't go down into Town very often to eat.
