Ok so the night before last I went to bed whilst John stayed up to watch his beloved Sheffield United in an FA Cup tie against Reading. The game didn't start till about 10.00pm our time which is far too late for me so I was just relaxing reading when I could hear John screaming my name. We had a rat and John needed help with it. Apparently darling Boris had brought it in live and gently placed it on the rug by the woodburner so it could get comfy and warm!!!! Needless to say it didn't stop there for long and shot off under the sofa. John armed me with the shovel from the companion set although I am not entirely sure what I was going to do with it should the rat appear because I love most living things but not rats. Anyway to cut a long story short, and avoiding all the effing and blinding, said rat suddenly broke cover and we eventually managed to encourage it out the back door with Boris and Chivers in hot pursuit - it made it to safety in the wood store - Boris and Chivers stood guard for a few minutes before getting bored. Fortunately in all the excitement John didn't miss any goals and I went back to bed - the game went to extra time and eventually SUFC secured the win - they will face Arsenal next - quarters finals I think!
March so far has been fairly fine and bright during the day but still quite chilly at night - we can see that Spring is just round the corner because all the Almond trees are in full blossom. I took a trip down to Polis this morning and was admiring the countryside - it looked lovely. I nearly had a close encounter with a red truck which was being driven on the wrong side of the road - I thought the driver was on the phone but then realised when he hurled abuse at me that he actually thought I was the one in the wrong. Fortunately there wasn't much traffic on the road so hopefully he didn't meet anyone else travelling less sedately than me.

I cannot believe that I actually have some little daffodils in flower at home.
Polis is looking smart - I know it is a bit weird to say that it is a pleasure to go to the bank but it is - the staff haven't changed in all the years we have been going there and they greet you like a friend. Today I had a Greek lesson on numbers as this is one place where I do try and use the language. I carefully asked to withdraw some money and was told I had done so perfectly but then we withdraw the same amount every month so you would hope that after 9 years you would be able to get it right!

John and I took a trip into the village to check the post and I took the opportunity to grab some photographs of the work and its progress or lack of it. At the back of the church one bit of the road has been cobbled but there is some strange crazy paving going on at the edge which looks like the workers are using up a whole load of slabs that have been dropped - I do hope they didn't pay for them complete. Sadly the centre of the village is still looking a right old mess - I really cannot see this being anywhere near completed any time soon.

Outside Stathmos and Marios's Bar the diggers are there yet again - I don't know how often I have seen them working on this same stretch of the road. You have to feel very sorry for the businesses there which are trying to survive, one can only hope that once it is finished they will still be in existence and thereafter will flourish.
