29th March

It is Sunday and I cannot believe that a week ago Mum was here to celebrate Mother's Day - it feels like that was about a month ago.  We are coping pretty well with the restrictions but hear and read all sorts of horror stories about people not having the correct paperwork when they go out so today we spent some time over a video call trying to get Mum au fait with the SMS service.  This was stymied by the fact that Mum's internet was playing up so she ended up sounding like that comedian Stan Unwin i.e. we only got every other word.  We too tried the system to ensure it worked and so we could give accurate instructions - on receiving our approval we then went for a walk around the block which we are entitled to do providing it isn't for too long and providing it is within the vicinity of the house.  Little Dog and Pup have now been joined by three others, another hunting dog with a red collar, a beagle type dog and a shaggy off white thing.  We don't know whether Andreas is aware of them, they may even be his.  Andreas was home today but indoors so we couldn't shout and ask.  Mum eventually got her approval and went out for a little walk so she is now armed with everything she needs so that if she goes out she will not collect a fine.

We were having chicken curry for our Sunday meal, taking advantage of the fact that this is not something I would produce for her and actually I was up in the early hours and took it out of the freezer.  I didn't sleep well as I am worried about Boo who isn't eating - he comes full of enthusiasm and then turns his nose up - we are hoping it isn't anything too serious and as he had an issue with his nose hope that this is what is causing him to be so difficult.  At 4.00am I was trying to temp with with anything and everything I could get my hands on but he resolutely refused to try anything - not even Tuna which is supposed to be the one thing they cannot resist.

Anyway with our meal sorted I turned my attention to some of the veggies in my box that have been there a while and decided to make soup.   Leek and Potato which I renamed the Grey one because it turned out the colour of a mixed wash accident and Butternut Squash, Carrot and Roasted Red Pepper which became the Orange one - and John got the choice for his lunch!!  Actually the Orange one was very tasty - good job as that as what we will be eating for lunch this week.

The weather has taken a turn for the worse and storms are forecast - the conservatory is fine during the day but chilly at night, good job we have plenty of wood in!!!

The Film challenge continues and today we had one of mine - The Good Liar which we enjoyed - there is very little about anything with Helen Mirren in it that we haven't liked and Ian McKellen is a damn fine actor.  We think Mum might like it too except some of the filming is very dark so it can be difficult to see what is going on and there is a bit of effing and worse!!

Pearly words from my ration book tonight...

Ways to get by...
...When things are hard to get hold of there is always an alternative...
...Cleaning pots and pans?  Crush eggshells to use a s scouring compound
...Scrubbing woodwork? Use the dregs of cold tea
...Cleaning your teeth? Use salt or soot - or a combination of both!!!
