Day 10

My Blog was self-isolating yesterday and refused to post sorry

Our first full day of what we are treating as total lock-down.  We are fully stocked up and do not anticipate going out save for necessities for the next three weeks in compliance with the requests of our government.  Not everyone is taking it so seriously, in fact some are not taking it seriously at all and in so doing will extend the time we are denied our freedom of movement.  We are treating it as a time to get things done around the house and garden which we have been 'meaning to do' but not got round to.  I am using the time to hone my 'make do and mend' skills in the kitchen department as I follow a zero-waste policy.  Today I am using up some store cupboard bits and pieces left over from Jane and John's rather hasty retreat and some tasteless rubbery cheese loafing in the fridge.  This is my first attempt at a 'tear and share' garlic bread.

The loaf is to supplement the remainder of the chicken and bacon pasta and salad I have earmarked for tonight.  Having made the dough it was able to go outside to prove as it was such a beautiful day.  It did rise which is a bonus!!!

John's job was somewhat more radical.  He has been struggling to keep the tiles of the pool clean so he had decided some time ago to drain the pool and scrub the tiles with the pool empty.  I gave him a hand and we scrubbed it to within an inch of its life.  The plan is that we will take the hit and fill it up from our external water tap.  Fortunately the pool isn't that big but it could take some time - John plans to set it going overnight.  He plans to do the same with Lakis's pool because it has suffered this winter for a number of reasons and as he wont be able to spend time on it for the next few weeks, at least, it seems better than wasting time, money and effort particularly as they are not now able to come out.

This is the result of my bread-making today.  It was OK but needed more salt, more garlic and butter and more kneading as it was rather heavy - I will know for another time!!!  We ate it though and the remainder is going to be turned into a base for a 'pizza' (zero waste remember).

We had a lovely video call from Lakis and Argy this evening - we shared a glass of wine and zivania together across the miles rather than across the road!  They have been enjoying some good weather which has made their confinement easier to cope with and although they had hoped to be enjoying some fabulous family time together at 2B it is not to be and as there is nothing they can do about it have taken it on the chin - they hope, as we do, that they may be able to come later in the year even for just a short period of time and we have our fingers crossed - maybe by then I will have perfected my garlic bread!!!
