So we are on Day 2 of the island lock down. This does not actually mean we are confined to barracks but we are being sensible and staying in more than normal but with most of our normal haunts closed for a few weeks that really isn't too difficult. As a result I don't really have too much to talk about so at times like these I contemplate scaling back on the Blog but know that if I do I will probably get out of the habit completely and then stop all together and then I get someone like Uncle Stan and Jackie sending me a little message to say how much the blog brightens up their somewhat gloomy days in the UK now that they are on lock down and have had to cancel their eagerly anticipated cruise around the Med with John's Mum. I will not stop even if they end up being my only two readers although I am not sure that they appreciate even the shortest post can sometimes take an hour out of my day as I try and decide what to talk about!!!
Today is Tuesday and I know Mum will be disappointed that there is no pickleball for her today nor Friday obviously and the Charity Shop is closed so her week is going to be long. We had earmarked today for gardening and John had organised to have a load of wood delivered from Christos in the Village which he was going to share with Rob. It occurred to us that the availability of items now, and in the future, may be compromised if this pandemic continues so our normal wood supplier is closed and we had bumped into Christos recently and he had asked us if we wanted some - we are pretty well stocked up but the evenings are cool and we are home much more than normal so we decided to get some from him and share with the Bobster.
So Haze you will be pleased to know that we have found a permanent home for the lovely Buddha you gave me for my birthday. He is the centrepiece of the makeover I have earmarked for the patch of garden which is in front of the kitchen window and I love him. I have everything crossed that you will be able to see him in person as planned later in the year.
The rest of my day was a bit of a blur really - readers will know that Jane and John arrived last Wednesday for what was to be a three week holiday and then everything went pear-shaped. Information and help is not forthcoming save that there is a directive from the Cypriot government that all tourists should be off the island by Saturday, Jane had tried both the High Commission and EasyJet trying to find out what they were suggesting they should do but was getting no-where and she wanted to be back in the UK rather than stuck here in an apartment not knowing whether they had to pack up and get away at short notice. There is no way, even if they were forced to stay, that they could 'enjoy' their holiday because nothing is open and there is nothing to do.
After some discussion and sole searching they decided to pack up and go to the airport to see first hand what they should do so I went down and picked them up as John was waiting for the wood. I dropped them at departures and drove to the nearby picnic ground to wait for updates and then got caught in a terrible hail storm followed by thunder and lightning and fog to decided to wait at Mum's where at least I could get a cuppa and go for a comfort break! and I knew Mum would be glad of a bit of company. To cut a long story short they got nowhere at the airport so I collected them and delivered them back to their accommodation. There are apparently some flights leaving tomorrow that might have seats on them - Jane thought maybe they should have bedded down to for the night at the airport but John was more laid back about it. It is a decision only they can make but there had been an announcement today that there would be no flights save for cargo in and out of the airport for two weeks from Saturday which meant that their booked flight back to the UK at the beginning of April was never going to be available even though the flight has not been deemed cancelled by EasyJet - in fact they are still allowing people to book on it.
John still had his seat to Manchester this evening - he held on hoping it would be cancelled although he would rather have rebooked for next year had the flights been released but no no no EasyJet only did that after he was deemed to be a 'no show' and therefore gave up his right to change and presumably the flight took off with his seat empty when there were people (like Jane) desperate to get back.
