We are not self-isolating per se but have made a conscious decision that from tomorrow we should stay in and around the house as much as possible. We are expecting an announcement from the government this afternoon and would not be surprised to be told that we HAVE to stay in. It is Mother's Day on Sunday and we have made a bit of a decision that this should probably be the last time, for a while, that Mum travels up to us. The decision may be taken out of our hands anyway but we are of the opinion that the sooner the island clamps down then the sooner we can get back to normal.
The weather this morning was stormy to say the least but fortunately the rain missed us and by the time we were ready to go to Polis to replenish our gas stocks the sun was shining. I set off in short sleeves but by the time we got down into down it was blowing a gale with a wind that could have cut you like a knife. We had to go to Paps to get our gas bottles swapped out so decided to go in and get some last minute bits and pieces. Today the routine was different, they were only allowing a limited number of shoppers in at any one time and on entry we had to sanitize our hands and put on disposable gloves which was no problem for us save for the fact that the combination of the sanitiser and the latex didn't half make my hands itch! We got everything we wanted including not one but two livers which Boris will be glad of.
I went to see Dad today - I haven't been for a while. I wonder what he would make of the current situation - actually I am rather glad he isn't here to experience the madness - he would sure as hell have had an opinion on it all that's for sure. Anyway he is now in the midst of some illustrious company!!! The grave to the left of Ivan has been done so there is now only the one on the end to complete the row and it all looks really smart and tidy. The flowers in the trough and the lovely plant from Di and Bobby are in flower and look lovely. I hope he is happy with what we decided for him.
On what might turn out to be the last day, for a while, that we go out and about save to get provisions I was taken by Sheila and Klaus to go and see their new home which is the bottom half of a house in Goudi which is across the valley from Droushia off the other road which runs from Polis to Paphos. I think it will be a lovely place for them to live as it is located in a traditional village with quite a range of amenities and the accommodation is well thought out and actually quite spacious and includes a pool. It sounds like they have found themselves a really nice landlord and everything they were hoping for. Central heating - tick, enclosed garden - tick, all on one level - tick and still part of a traditional community - tick, tick, tick. I am so very pleased for them because they really deserve to find peace and happiness on what they hope will be their final move.
Finally have heard from Jane that she and John arrived back safely and, their great friend Mike went up to Liverpool to collect them and then take them back to Bristol so they could collect their car. I think when the dust has settled they will agree that their early return to the UK was the sensible thing to do. Things here will only get worse before they get better.
