Snow joke...

The weather for the next couple of days is pretty rank - today lots of rain but apparently a lull at lunchtime and tomorrow rain all day.  We decided that we would take a chance on a trip to the Troodos as both Mark and Laura were keen to go.

To be fair on the way up, which included a difference of opinion as to the best way to go, it is hard to imagine that there is still snow up on the top but there is.  Lots of it has been pushed to the side and is a sodden and dirty mess but there are still areas which look pretty pristine.  You can tell that it is late in the season for snow as there is none on the trees and there is a river flowing down the road where it is melting.  We managed to avoid the rain but low cloud and fog meant that the 'golf ball' was difficult to see.

We managed to get to take some photographs before retiring into the coffee shop and some welcome hot chocolate.  There were some snowboarders giving it a go so we stopped to watch their antics for a while but it had started to rain at that point so we decided to make our way back down the mountains and head for Omodos and some lunch.

Omodos was quiet.  It is still early in the season so a lot of the cafes and little artisan shops were shut.  Corona Virus is compounding the 'quietness' and we are awaiting a big announcement from the government as to what further restrictions will apply.  John's mum will not now be able to go on her cruise and John is contemplating changing or cancelling his trip on Tuesday as he does not want to have to come back and self isolate as this will cause us further problems.

On a brighter note we came across some really cute cats in Omodos.

One was grabbing some weak rays of sunshine from a lofty perch in a tree and the other followed us being super super cute and wanting attention.  It was just the sort of little cat that you could scoop up and take home with you but we resisted.  It was actually dry and quite warm as we wandered around the little streets - incredible to think we had just been up in snow!!

I love the doors in Omodos - I am thinking about trying to recreate one for my next picture as I have to have something to start on Monday when I go and see Sheila and Klaus.

There are loads of them in Omodos, all shapes and sizes, colours and states of repair!!  We actually saw some building work being done - very modern structures by the looks of things which we hope will be 'tempered' to fit in with their surroundings otherwise the village will be spoilt.

We left but not before we had investigated what the nut shop had to offer and came away with a right old selection - love them but the sugar coated ones are so very fattening!!!

We booked in for a meze at Finikas this evening, with a special request for fish for Laura.  It was, as it always is, a fabulous evening with so much food and it was toasty warm and we were made to feel like family by Philippos, Marina and Andri.  We are so lucky to have this place in the village but they are really struggling with the progress of the cobbles or rather the lack of it.  We do our best to go as often as we can.  It made for a lovely evening.
