Today we had diarised omelettes for breakfast using the fabulous eggs which Eleni had given us recently. I shall soon be redundant as John has become very interested in cooking, and baking, during this lockdown period. Tomorrow he wants to have a go at scones and another banana loaf!!! All this baking is fine except with little or no exercise it is having a very adverse effect on our waistlines. A three egg omelette doesn't help either particularly when it is oozing with cheese and onion or in John's case cheese, onion and leftover pastrami!!! Still it sets us up for the day and then we only have our evening meal - no lunch.
I know Mum is finding this week really hard so I was pleased to see that she has been doing some of her etching art. This lovely picture is from a book I got for her for Christmas. I know she struggles with her hands so this intricate work takes time and patience and she has made a really good job of it.We spoke several times today - our final conversation was quite a sad one as she rang to inform me that my godmother Jackie had recently lost her husband Jim. Not to Corona-Virus but this will have an impact on his funeral. Jackie was married previously to Mum's brother Tony who was sadly killed in the 1960's when on a family holiday in France leaving her a widow with two young children. It was some time later that she met and married Jim who was a quiet man whose company John and I enjoyed at the lunch I organised for Mum and Dad's 50th Wedding Anniversary at Ash House back in 2005.
We didn't do too much today - on our list was cleaning the Kitchen Window and washing the shutters which we did and I can actually see out into the garden now when I am doing the washing up and for an added bit of excitement we also had scheduled in emptying the bins.
Whilst I was putting a new bin-bag into the outside bin I realised we had a visitor next door and looked over the wall to see that the mare appeared to have broken her tether and was enjoying the grass in the field - I think Andreas must have come and moved her because shortly afterwards she was back on a tether but still in the field.
With so much time on my hands I am getting loads of ideas on how to 'pretty up' areas which are in need of some TLC which John finds very worrying - today it was his shed and the workbench. I have cleared the workbench of 'stuff' and the 'stuff' which John wants to keep has gone into a nice tray. The bare panel above has been given a bit of a whimsical treatment with some wording I found on tintyweb and which sums up John's attitude to me and his tools!!! He raised an eyebrow at this and smiled - I think he is banning me from the tintyweb and Pinterest for a while now!!!
